2025/26 Thierno Barry

He’s the only player I know that was getting standing ovations when coming off the pitch, after not having a shot on target in his first 10 games. Not sure how much more support could have been given to him.
We support most players finding their feet until they eventually find form. Problem comes after that when fans then expect that player to never have a bad game again.

It's a difficult one I think, Barry for example gets plenty of support at the games, but online is a different kettle of fish. It's nothing to do with our fans in particular, it's just how social media and this type of forum is. He's not an easy watch, fans aren't going to be having a love in about him when he's missing sitters, dribbling the ball out of play, nutmegging himself etc let's be honest.

Not expecting a love in after he's had a bad game but doesn't half get boring reading meltdowns about how he's worse than Niasse etc. Know there's no room for nuance on the Internet and all that but still find it tedious.

Not saying I don't understand coming on here to fume btw, just certain threads leave a bit of a sour taste atm with the amount of people going massively over the top.

im not writing barry off tho
I am, never looked like a footballer never mind a Striker .... his height = not one headed goal - - I admit its hard without the support upfront - but his all round game is iffy & two easy chances missed on Tuesday ... cost us .... reverting to hoof ball at the end sums DM up .... sorry DM has to get a 3 man midfield with speed & recovery - we have the players there - HA - Garner- Tim - & KDH maybe Nydaye & Alcaraz as a forward pair & the young lad for Chelsea as the supplier of crosses ?

What we do lack big style - on both side are two really good overlapping full backs who can defend .... DM knew this back in June of last year ....

Not being funny but I watched non league for the Walter Smith era - & I seen many Centre Forwards in the Northern then Unibond league with far better attributes than Barry - Barry Hales - made it at Fulham etc - I seen some duds too - but any player who was great thought twice about going professional as a footballer - if they had a good job or trade - they had more attributes than Barry on the sloppy pitches & no referee protection - hence why you get FA CUP upsets -

I travelled away back to a working mans game & seen some really good players who may have easily made the grade - they were being paid £80-100 often cash in the hand on top of their job - also thought nothing of playing 3 games per week back then over the easter period -

Stars have come through non league football & made a good living - it's very rare though- but quite a few have made the grade Vardy for one...

Just clearly a bad faith argument. You saw non league strikers playing against non league defenders in 19XX who you can confidently say are better than Barry who is playing against Premier league defenders in 2026.

Sure, certainly no logical inconsistencies to that argument whatsoever.

You judge any player at any standard & some jus stick out a mile in any circumstances - Barry for his fee to just does not IMO - maybe the formation we play but any CF worth his salt would have scored from the 2 chances he had ....
