2025/26 Thierno Barry

I think he's a big win for the recruitment department. You could tell at the start of the season that he had some attributes but he had a lot of work needed in some areas. It's really satisfying to be able to see the progress he's making.

By no means perfect - needs to get more aggressive, needs to get in the gym and strengthen, needs to get more consistent with his back to goal and his lay offs, needs to work on his first touch a bit (if that's at all possible), but the progress he's making is very clear.

I was critical earlier in the season that he never seemed to be getting in the right areas to score and on the rare occasions he did, he seemed to lack the composure to finish properly - already massive, massive strides here in fact he nearly scored a lovely outside of the foot finish today as well.

Think he's a feather in the cap of whoever pushed for him as a signing as they needed to be able to look past some of the ungainly qualities he has to see how he could develop.

Still disappears for long stretches but some strikers do.

Still has a leaden first touch sometimes but getting better.

Really pleased by the audacity of his attempts now that he’s getting some confidence. His goal today, smashed into the roof of the net, his curler to the far post, his chip at Villa- all quite cheeky.

Theres a lot that he doesnt do well clearly but....as before, hes struck the ball quite well when given the chance. Hes basically the anti-DCL right now.

If he manages to score next match, he will have a better scoring record this season than DCL had in any season but 1.
Can't understand all the DCL comparisons Dom decided to Foff great finish from Thierry we've got a player here.

Delighted for the lad that he’s beginning to find the net, seems more confident each game. It’s still painful however, that Everton scouts still can’t manage to find a forward, who doesn’t have a 1st touch like Jack the Ripper.
You can get forward: who have a nice touch, do everything well and look good but never score. I like the forwards that score.

Nice goal, and that shot that was saved was sublime too off the outside of his boot. It'd be interesting to see what he'd do if we created more chances for him. On the downside, he still looks lightweight and bambi-esque at times with the ball at his feet.

First half DCL looked twice the player, second half was the exact opposite.
The thing is, he’s 6’5. He has a bit of pace but no actual skill on the ball to beat players. Because he’s 6’5. He would do far better to only ever run into space and then pass it simple rather than trying to dribble and then he wouldn’t look so awkward. Duncan Ferguson never ever tried to dribble past players. He could run and turn people but as soon as a defender had him lined up he would pass back because dribbling wasn’t his game.

Still a work in progress but strikers are judged on goals and he's slotting for fun right now, and long may it continue. Looks like he's really enjoying his goals too which is nice to see after he found them hard to come by early in the season.

His first touch is generally ok. He just needs to pick an easy pass after running down the line and not do the no luck flicks so often.

I think it’s a bit early to call him ‘a big win’ for the recruitment department. He’s been about the minimum quality I would expect for a £30 million striker.

A big positive for me tonight was that finish.

Still doing loads of absolute crap like not moving, not holding up the ball and then I think well hes completely isolated and its a crap job being an Everton striker. But that's another finish tonight we haven't seen him do and that's a bonus.

I noticed after his goal Branthwaite pointed at him to make a run which he done instantly down the line and won a throw. A simple thing but a) Bramthwaite miles better than anyone else at seeing runs and b) Barry stretching the play with a bit of confidence that the ball would be a good one.

I'd still like another striker in, but it's good to see Barry getting onto balls like tonight, making a proper strikers run and it was a superb finish.

Think this is real sustainable development happening. Not like so many other Moyes strikers who came in and immediately did the business for about 2 months and then flopped. Including Beto.
