Transfer Rumour Thiago Silva

See my response to Adam above mate. I see it as a clear upgrade and may help us spend money on other vital areas.

None of us know for sure ofcourse!
I wouldn't be against it either and he is an upgrade on Keane of course. But I think maybe be better get in someone who is not near the end of their career.
Have a new signing, holgate, mina and one of the young players as our 4 centre half's which should be enough as Europe is not likely

Objectively you have to question it tho. He's won like...everything. And Everton is his last stop?

I don't mean question it per se, more like a bit of a head scratcher.

World Cup & champs league.

Two things he’s not won. Pretty major things too.

Only one of them has been proven to be a winner and to be fair, Rooney's legs had absolutely gone. Could always see his brain was ticking way ahead of what his legs could do. Always a chance with Rooney of his legs going considering how fast he was at once point while being powerful.

It's not asif Silva has relied on a burst of pace or maintained pace.

again, the question for me is Keane or Silva. Much rather have Silva in for a season or two, sell Keane if we can and re-invest elsewhere or into a younger centreback who could learn from Silva and grow into the XI. All easier said than done ofcourse.

And he was still better than most of the squad.

Wasnt a fan of Walker myself falls into the Gary Neville category of woefully overrated.

Really? I thought Des Walker was tremendous. A good defender first and foremost but also rapid. Reminded me a lot of Joseph Yobo but without the mistakes in his game.

Then again I thought Neville was quality too...

What happened to all the other centre halfs in world football?

Not that I'm against Silva signing, just not convinced on the "he's a winner/leader" Fabian Delph/Wayne Rooney argument as the key reason to sign him.

O think the biggest thing is what has been mentioned so far. If you include Mina and Holgate as being young still then we have 4 quality prospects coming through with Gibson and Branthwaite. Getting a top end defender in for big money would block their development too.

It's not like we are signing a late 30's James Collins.

I thought he never really fulfilled his potential myself mate, he had all the natural attributes pace and technique, the appex was Forest and Italia 90 as a young man and i thought he never really fulfilled his talent after that and his move to Italy. Thought he was a bit of a suspect defender myself for all his talent.

Gary Neville, i never really understood, a good pro in a team of great player - but i hear people talk about him as the best right back ever, not in a million years, i though he was a very limited player who was good mates with David Beckham and a bit gobby - probably a good leader mind.

Who knows? Time will tell, but time will tell on any signing.

All I am saying is if this does happen then lets trust the manager on this one. He knows what he is doing.

We need a bit of leadership in the team.
I don't want to trust the manager. I want the DOF to do his job.

And maybe he is. But it feels a little off with all the other Brands signings.
