Amongst many things this last few months with Everton it's been so noticeable how lacking we've been in leadership on the field. Only 12 months ago there was a view that the team was full of leaders.....well, where are they?

The current captain is there purely by default - quite simply because he's been here a long time. And, his turgid performances and total inability to galvanise, organise and motivate his charges was never more blatantly obvious than today. I'm sick to the back teeth of seeing him womble up the left hand side of the pitch for 5-10 yards then stop and stretch out his pleading arms before passing backwards.

It's about time Koeman grew a pair and dropped the lop-haired, homesick Blue and gave the armband to somebody who knows what it means to drag a beleaguered team out of a mess. We need a brace heart, not the untouchable Church Mouse.

Rant over.

For who? We don't have a back-up senior left back, and the most senior U23 left backs are out on loan. Martina is bad enough on the right, he'd be even worse on his weaker side.

We have no real leaders in the squad, Keane is one who hopefully may turn out to be but he’s nowhere near it now. Far too quiet. Seamus would be the obvious choice when he’s back but even then a Koeman will probably Martina.

Who've we lost that was a leader?

Stubbs Cahill Ferguson Campbell Carsley Gravesen Yobo Neville. Some players clearly better than others but st least they had a bit of character. It's been completely devoid from Everton for a long time.

Wasn't one of the reasons for getting Rooney that he would help to galvanise the team, bring on the passion cause he's a blue, blah, blah, blah? That's working well so far.

Doesn't bode well for our current position or a relegation scrap does it? Just where are the leaders on the pitch? When Burnley scored yesterday, those leaders sorry senior players should have stood up to be counted. Instead they crawled back into their shell, giving half arsed performances that have been the norm this season. We may have virtually a new team, but still the same fragile mentality that wins you nothing.
