The unsigned Don Revie contract 1973

Howard Kendall had more success here.
Lots of ifs and buts.
If things panned out differently, we may have not signed him as player/manager.
But as others have said..old big ears would have been great at Everton

Would certainly have been better than Bingham....or maybe not,who knows eh?
Bingham did come close though. Probably the most disappointed I've ever been as a Blue.
"Despite the close nature of the final table; most pundits had dubbed Everton Champions elect going into the closing stages. The Merseysiders had lost just four games all season, topped the table and appeared to have a relatively trouble-free run-in mostly against teams in the bottom half of the table. The pressure of the title being theirs to lose appeared to get to the Toffeemen who inexplicably lost four of their last nine games, three of which, against Luton, Carlisle, who would ultimately be relegated, and Sheffield United in a game they had led 2-0 in at half time, ultimately costing them the title."

Weird timing, just finished reading The Damned United which, whilst a work of fiction, does lean into the behaviours of Clough and Revie in that era.
Not sure either would have been a guarantee of long term success but then again, who knows.
If there's one thing this club does better than anyone, its 'What if...?'

My first(other than the previous seasons Goodison derby 🙄) experience of Everton doing an "Everton"how we failed to win that title in that season is beyond me,games against the relegated Luton and Carlisle as well as Sheff Utd at home in the "business" end of the season should have been "gimme's"🙄,I remember us beating Derby on their bog of a pitch to go top, they eventually won it ,two up at home to Carlisle, two up at home to Sheff Utd,win both those games we're champions, throw in being one nil up away at Luton and the Carlisle away debacle and we really should have cruised it, apologies for the bad memories contained🙄😂not that I haven't let that season go eh?😉😂👍

Was that the season Cloughs derby won it mate?

This was under John Moores who was a very ambitious owner and went with the club moto

Yep. Unrecognisable game to today. The local businessman running the club. The likes of john moores and jack walker would be seen as paupers in the game today.
I was watching one of those BBC archives not long ago on a match night at Man City under peter swales in 1976. The two secretarys janice and susan counting and bagging up thousands of 50ps from the turnstiles after the game. Quite nostalgic lol.

I read a story one time that Revie tried to sign Alan Ball from us and gave him £100 cash as a sweetner ,Bally took the money then told him he wasnt interested

…..certainly remember Ball telling the story of Revie addressing the England players informing them he’d got the FA to significantly increase their appearance money but the likes of him and Bobby Moore were not in the least impressed, just playing for England was enough of an honour for those lads.

How times change.
