I like Aldo, but I'm the same as you in wanting McGregor to win for the fume.

I've always liked a cocky fighter. Sonnen was tremendous entertainment in interviews. I always remember when he got asked what he thought about the abuse he gets online from people in Brazil " Wow, they now have the internet in Brazil "

Difference in Mcgregor and Sonnen is McGregor has backed up what he's said, he even predicted way back that Aldo would pull out.

I feel like Aldo is the better match up for McGregor - Mendes could potentially hold down the latter for 5 rounds, and Aldo won't do that.

That's the danger with the 2 possible opponent thing though. I doubt he's been concentrating so much on his TDD in this camp so far, but if he ends up fighting Mendes he will have needed to. Conor uses a lot of spin kicks etc. to get people to commit so he can counter, would he use the same tactic against a wrestler? Probably not.

It is mad about Aldo that he has pulled out of a lot of fights in the past and Conor predicted this back in December, I wonder if there is more to it than just injuries. We've seen more and more fighters pulling out of top fights 'due to injury' over the last few years, with so much at stake in losing your belt, but so many endorsements on offer for holding on to it, it does pose the question.

For a guy who frequently complains about money though, this is Aldo's chance for the biggest payday of his life. I doubt he'll want to miss out on that, but he does have a ready excuse now if he were to lose for an immediate rematch $$$. I reckon he'll fight.

So for someone who hasn't got a clue about this sport, has Mendes any chance on Saturday night, despite being a fellow countryman I can't bring myself to support McGregor, the utter weapon.

McGregor isnt even a good wum but he still manages to wind every one up. Which makes him a good wum i guess...whatever. Think i mean there's not much art to his wind ups.

Still a fan, like.

Why don't you like him? It's amazing the way he has people engaged in him and this fight. Most of the forums are just all about him, Lawler and MacDonald are being forgotten about. It's crazy.

Mendes is a strong wrestler, who mixes up his TDs, with good striking and KO power in his hands. There are a lot of people who feel that he'll take McGregor down at will and pound on him. This is a very competitive fight, and probably more difficult for McGregor than the original Aldo fight because of the difference in style and the fact that McGregor wont have been spamming TDD in training. Having said that McGregor does hold a significant size advantage.

It should be good, can't wait to see how it plays out. I hope McGregor finishes him and defends a lot of the TDs to show that he is capable, because if that happens the Aldo fight will be massive! No one wants to see Mendes/Aldo 3.

Just never took to him, always took more liking to humble fighters which he is as far away from as possible, couple that with a series that was aired over here showing he's not the only bell in his family.

Thanks for the info, might have a bet and record it to watch Sunday morning.

Fair enough if it's a family thing, I've not seen that doc.

I don't usually support the cocky showman either, but way too many fighters just come out and talk jibberish and thank Jesus all the time now, it's refreshing to see someone be a little different. He's certainly done what was required of him and got people talking about the FW division. At a time when MMA was crying out for a breakout star, he's really come through in terms of getting people interested.

It could all come crashing down on Saturday in fairness as this is a tough fight, but if he takes this and they put him vs Aldo on the Dublin card in October. It'll be huge!

Sonnen destroyed the greatest ever for 4 1/2 rounds, McGregor won't get close to doing that to Aldo (or Mendes).

Think McGregor vs Aldo will actually be a lightweight bout now, both of them have horrific weight cuts anyway without a ban on IVs that's coming in.

Sonnen got beat by Anderson twice lad and if you watched the first fight he did not 'destroy' him for 4 and a half rounds.

Plus he was a proven roid head.

How can you predict Mcgregor won't get close to that? He's already got a title shot and has probably the best stand up in his division.

I did watch the first fight (didn't mention the second fight for a reason like), thought he was comfortably ahead on points when he tapped.

Point is you can't say he didn't back up what he said in the lead up to the fight.

As for McGregor, I do think he can get close to doing that to both, I lied.

Oh and Aldo's stand up's better IMO, just not as flashy.

We'll see when McGregor fights Aldo eventually but my money is on McGregor.

There's a difference between being confortably ahead on points and getting destroyed.

Watch the 2nd fight then you will see someone get destroyed.

So he didn't back up his talk, 3 title fights 3 losses.

Honestly don't believe the fight will ever happen, (at FW), think Mendes is a harder fight for McGregor than Aldo, purely because of their styles. Out of interest why do you think CM would win?

Being ahead of by at least 4 points is getting destroyed IMO, he took Silva apart until the triangle.

Yeah ik what happened in the second fight.
