The fact that the person complaining about it seemingly hadn't actually noticed it themselves probably tells it's own story to be honest.
As the person "complaining " or more bringing it to other fans attention as I see it, part of why I hadn't noticed was the toffee lady made her trip around Goodison quite early when a lot of fans weren't in their seats. Not a problem pre all seating as fans used to get their spec much earlier.

One of my daughters was toffee lady over 20 years ago and she had a great time it would be a pity if the tradition and the opportunity for girls was lost.

Apparently it is due to the fact that girls want to be mascots rather than the toffee lady. I think we can have both

I wasn't having a go, just making a genuine point. If you have to bring it to everyone's attention because nobody's noticed then it tells its own story really, we can whip up a daily mail style manufactured outrage, but the reality is most people don't engage with the toffee lady or even have any awareness of whether she goes round or not. I don't have any issue with the idea of the toffee lady but if the club are saying they don't get people wanting to do it and the fans don't pay any attention to it, maybe its just run its course.

Or maybe you give up the little things and then all of a sudden you find out you have given up a lot.

As to whether fans have noticed maybe we have all been getting used to the new stadium.

There's a family enclosure, surely that's her turf. It's a means of reaching out to the kids, and the sweets are just a part of it. (rereading this it isn't meant to sound so possibly sinister).

No it's not that, we had a thread on here last year saying we hadn't had a toffee lady since the covid lockdowns and nobody had noticed then either. So it really is just that people don't actually care i'm afraid. But you're probably right, who cares whether girls actually want to do it. This is a man's world, if we want them to do it they should bloody well do it, right?

Well I am a man. The reason the club gave was that girls didn't want to do it. That isn't the same as girls don't want to do it. I didn't say they should be forced to do it rather than be a mascot I said that both can happen. It turns out you were being an arse after all

No i'm being serious. If girls don't want to do it then they don't want to do it. Didn't want to do it and don't want to do it are the same thing because we're talking about a very short time difference. Didn't want to do it twenty years ago isn't the same as don't want to do it now, didn't want to do it in May is the same as don't want to do it. All i'm saying is fans generally don't engage with it and girls apparently don't want to do it, so I think it's a pretty weird attitude to just say 'well i like tradition so just sort it out'. You've come on here replying to a days old post getting on your high horse about it as if other opinions aren't allowed, so don't start whining about other people being an arse.

Bring it back.
Ask for volunteers, sure plenty would do it .
Can't be anything other than a lady as the first one was a lady (Jemima Bushell) and always has been.
Give the role away for free as a match day experience, 2 seats for the game and the chance to step on the pitch, fulfill an ambassadorial role, and meet the players. A little piece of history. EitC. Ball-boys and ball-girls, and mascots a plenty great. Peoples club.

You misunderstood what I wrote. The fact the club says that girls don't want to do it doesn't mean that girls don't want to do it. I'm fairly sure that if the club offered it to the supporters club I am a member of at least half the season would be taken up immediately.

You made it about men forcing their opinions on what women should do.Sometimes if you act like an arse you should own it

Crazy this isn't part of the match day experience.

In the days of generic, homogeneous stadiums and experiences, this is totally unique in PL and the last tangible association with our nickname (the best in world football imo).

What do the official fans group do, if they're not campaigning to keep traditions like this?

I'm more than happy to own being an arse on a football forum don't worry. I'm obviously being facetious to a point but not entirely, i'm just taking what the club has said at face value because there's no reason not to. If they say that girls aren't interested then I can believe it both because it would tie into changing attitudes in the modern world and because there's no real reason for them to lie. It's not like it's a big cost cutting exercise or something that they don't want to admit to, nobody would really bat an eyelid if they'd said we've decided to knock it on the head with the ground move because it was a Goodison tradition and things have moved on so i'm not clear on why we would assume they're lying. For me some of the reaction is like when you see sad old men writing to their local paper or ranting on the local facebook group that the high street is dying despite the fact they never actually go in to any of the shops they apparently want to save.
