Leave the lad alone with the sly digs, eh...he's run his a** ragged for club and country. You don't need to state the obvious on someone who helped get us back some respect on the pitch.
Exactly. MLS is a great opportunity for someone like Tim. He gets to extend his career a bit in a league that is outside the European sphere. All the while, he gets to live nicely in the States, which is an easy place to be considering he is an Aussie who has spent much of his adult life in England.
Even though footballers make a lot of money, their careers are short, and even a few extra years can help a lot as his money needs to be extended well past his playing days.
Its not reasonable to expect a legend like Cahill or Henry to ride pine in the Premiership, or to drop down to a lower division. MLS still lets them get a regular run at "top flight" football, but at a pace and skill level consistent with their age. Not everyone wants to be, or needs to be, like a Giggs or Scholes, who still hang on even though they rarely play. Not everyone plays for a club that is a lock to play in Europe and/or advance deep in Cup play, thus providing more games.
Beckham, at this point, would not be able to keep up with the speed and athletes in The Prem on a regular basis. But at the reduced level found in MLS, his passing, striking and set piece play can shine. Those skills are still Prem quality, but not at the expense of him being run off the pitch. Both Beckham, and the footballing world, have been far better off for him having extended his career in a league that permits him to retain some dignity (albeit false in a lot of ways).
