The age of the former players may have something to do with that

McCarthy is 22 and has potential ability and potential sell on value, the others don't

You buy McCarthy for £15-20m, how much sell on value are you expecting? Disagree with potential ability, think he is a neat and tidy player, but not what we need.

That article is wrong. McCarthy's 'Tackles + Interceptions' was 4.6 not 3.3. They say Carrick's 4.4 is a benchmark and McCarthy exceeds this. He clearly can tackle.
