...I posted on the Alcaraz thread this morning that I was talking with one of the Wigan 1st team background staff last night. He said Kone was 'decent' but Alcaraz is top drawer. He couldn't understand why the rs hadn't gone him in favour of Toure. He also said we had got him on a steal. Top class centre back according to this bloke.
I'll be MORE than happy to eat my words on any of these signings. I've actually never been negative on a signing before, other than john spencer and mark hughes type signings.
I absolutely loathe the fact that Martinez couldnt find anyone in global football better than Kone -- its so disturbing that it actually still has me in shock. He is no way near what we need and if jelavic doesnt retrieve his form were goosed in attack.
Following this he signs Alcaraz who was part of a horriffic defence the entire time he was with wigan. However his participation in games did lower their conceded goals avg considerably -- but why have someone who is a walking timebomb in the squad? Any player spitting at another is a slant on the name of the football club as suarez is for the RS. We dont know who was in for alcaraz but any interest hasnt been publicized nor has he much claim to fame for being wigans best defender as they are all useless....
I'd be happy to be proven wrong but then he goes and signs Robles (admittedly i think he will be a good signing) again an ex wigan player. This points at short term job security through signing average players (good enough for mid table squads) with no focus on what we need to progress.
People saying "their better than who left" need to think about how much better they are...
moyes and joe royle (best two managers of recent times) went for improving the team at all times and thus inproving the squad.
You progress by improving the team, not by signing average squad players who are unlikely to push the players ahead of them.
