If Hitz was on £30k a week i'm going to kick off.

Admittedly it's speculation rather than fact mate, but when you factor in what some players are paid these days, it's by no means implausible. And sadly if we were paying him less, we simply have saved less than we think by getting rid.

Guessing Mucha and Hitz were both on about £30k a week (£1.5m a year each)

Heitinga hasn't gone yet. No-one has shown any interest.

And we've brought in Martinez on somewhere between £2m and £3m a year (£40k to £60k a week), paying Wigan £2m for the pleasure.

So we've cut the wage bill by at most £9m per year.... but we have since spent £2m cash on the compo for Martinez, AND signed him up to a wage: call it £2.5m for the year, for the sake of maths.

So we've saved £4.5m. That's wages amounting to £90k a week for incoming players.
