The Season so far: Game by Game

It's th same old story every season, throwing away points against teams we really should be beating comfortably, usually because of defensive errors or the lack of timely subs (or the wrong ones). We're not going to win every game, of course, but there are far more disappointing results like the draw with Norwich than there are wins over the likes of United and City. That is becauase we're in the top six, I know, but those discarded points are the madeningly frustrating reason why we don't challenge for Europe on a more consistent and stronger basis.

The first Wigan goal was also offside.

We should be 11-13 points better off at least! From the following games that should have been won:-

Newcastle, Wigan, Liverpool, Fulham, Reading, Norwich. Not because I feel we are a better side than them, but because of the chances in the game and poor decisions.

It has been a total mixture of bad finishing, bad defending, awful keeping and absolutely woeful refereeing. It has been such a frustrating season, but in the most we are playing some really good football and I am still convinced someone is going to get tonked when everything clicks.

Just highlighting the poor refereeing decisions we have had.

Is that right that Liverpool should be 6 points better off and us 4?

Imagine the derisory comments on here at any thread on RAWK complaining that refs were costing them points.

And Chelsea should be 6 points better off too but its only little old Everton who get decisions against them because the big bad FA don;t want us in the top 4.

There's that konspiiiiiiraceeee talk again.

I think looking at each game in a bubble, you have a point. But surely you can't do that? With those pregame predictions, we'd be top of the league! Surely no one's expectations are that high?!

Other than West Brom every game this season we could have arguably done better, no point looking in the past though. We need to start picking up points or we'll miss out on Europe yet again.

I'd exclude Norwich from that list based on the performance. We didn't look as in control during that game as we did the previous one. Two penalties from Reading, but really a sloppy free kick vs Norwich in the middle of the pitch can't really be called a poor refereeing decision can it? You'd never expect us to score from that position. You might hope, yes, but you'd never expect it.

Look I know that clearly we are the team that has been given the least according to that but it was only the Newcastle game.. The rest apparently are irrelevant and should be dismissed, that Pienaar got a red for nothing at QPR which meant no Pienaar for the Derby is down to Colemans defending or a Howard miss or something. Well that's the basics of what I keep getting told anyway. Something about conspiracy and kopites or some such and only admitting to Newcastle being memorable.

We make mistakes as does everyone, for some reason we only make mistakes when it costs us a goal but even when we are not making mistakes the ref is making up for it. Its been a harsh season imo but one in which we have been better than we have for years.
That we are the worst ref'd club and still 5th is testament to how well we are doing on the whole. Just sort the fkin defense out and we are good.. Come on Moyes defense.. its what your best at, don't worry about the moans of negativity you'll get for easing off a bit up front.. Get us the 3 points and a clean sheet.

I'm guessing two of those points for Liverpool were for Suarez' disallowed goal. Ignoring the fact that he shouldn't have been on the pitch* at that stage and it wasn't a free kick in the first place. Nor was it for their second.

*if he had have been sent off then he would have missed the Newcastle game also and not scored their equaliser.

Saying all that, it's a bit of a daydream of a league really, isn't it? If Fellaini's goal against Newcastle would have stood, would Anichebe have scored either his disallowed or his actual goal? Would Newcastle have just equalised earlier? Maybe they would and then bagged a winner.
