The right to die

Although, what I will acknowledge is alcohol's capacity to induce EXTREME IRRATIONALITY.

We all know what alcohol can do, and the absolute state it can get people in.

My opinions on this become a bit more diluted if I hear alcohol was involved.

Fair enough.

As I said, I only have issue with people who have put their own needs before that of their children through committing suicide. A process that normally leaves the child far more scarred than the individual who has chosen to commit suicide in the first place.

"Oooh I can't take it anymore, but I expect you to be able to take finding me hanging on a rope in a garage before your 14th birthday"

I'm sorry lads, but it winds me right up!

a mate of mine, horrible story this, but she had this step dad that was extremely controlling and didnt let her do anything, she kinda hated him, she has a bf a good mate of mine and had been 5 years before this day, she told him about going out with him and how they are planning to move in. they were in the kitchen. he grabbed a knife ran after her outside, she said something along the lines of wish you were dead. he stabbed himself repeatadly infront of her and died on the way to hospital. she is glad, her mums glad, her brothers are glad. so although this doesnt happen often sometimes suicide isnt all bad.
oh and to finish off the story nicely this girl is so fit. if someone tells me how to upload a pic on here i'll post one

There was a story here recently, can't remember where I heard it but an elderly married couple who were together for over 40 years dealt with this situation.

The wife was terminally ill and in lots of pain, the husband took a cab to the hospital with a loaded pistol and killed his wife, than turned the gun on himself, however the gun jammed and he was arrested.. Not sure what became of that case but everyone agreed he did it out of love.

thats horrible that. like that story the other week, that fella wanted permission to die then died about 2 weeks after ruling, suspicious? i dont know but if someone did kill him through love i would have to accept that

I dug a bit deeper on the case I mentioned.

The wife did die eventually and the husband is being charged w/ murder.

Good posts from animal farm even though I don't agree with some of it. Every suicide is different. Some people can be mentally ill when they do it, some people like you say can be completely rational and selfish. What I will say is that people shouldn't just dismiss people who commit suicide as cowards. Each person has an individual set of circumstances. What this world needs is a little but more compassion in situations like this. Far too many people turn there noses up and lable **** without knowing **** first.

everyone should have the right to kill themselves regardless of health. suicide isn't illegal and neither should euthanasia as for people to want to make this choice in the first place means life is too much and too difficult for them too enjoy. Most people don't want to commit suicide just 'for a laugh' do they they have reasons.

Fair enough.

Most people don't do it so their kids will find them. Besides, if they're gonna kill themselves I don't think they'd care that much about how their kids felt.

I voted yes, for all the same reasons that you guys basically said.
When one is suffering, isn't it better to have the option?
But you will probably get people who will say that they just don't want to live any more because life sucks and then have a justified suicide.

What I don't agree with, mind, are the posts on suicide.
I personally feel that it is selfish and cruel. And it's not just the families left behind, it's everyone they had met with - friends?
Yes, it has to take some guts to take your own life, but then you're gone and what's next? You're leaving your family and friends behind, that's selfish.
I had a friend who committed suicide, and her mum is still in a right state about it even after 4 years.
If you're really depressed, then see a shrink and drink some happy pills, it is as easy as that.
If you're being bullied, then don't just take it.
There's always a solution, which isn't suicide.

I couldnt condemn anyone to a lifetime of imprisonment inside their own mind - completely conscious and aware of everything around them yet also completely helpless. Im not into pressurising anyone into making the decision to shuffle off early, but believe thoroughly that a person has the right to die with dignity on their own terms wherever possible.

Quality of life, and not prolonging the torture of an existence in word only.
