The Power Shift On Merseyside

I genuinely believe that we can beat Liverpool in a few weeks time. One of the first times I've ever been able to say that.
We are playing so well at home especially, and we have a fantastic first 11 that can beat anyone. And I honestly think this year will be a special year for us in the league, not necessarily in he F.A cup though.

Liverpool do look good at times but their defence is shocking, like someone mentioned earlier if you look at the form league since January (which is really important) they are in the relegation form, we are third. We have a better squad since the first game in January and we currently sit in 2nd. I think Liverpool should be worrying about playing us, not vice-versa.
Which is why I'm quietly optimistic for the derby. We have players now that can give us extra quality at important times, something that we've lacked when we played them before.

Personally I'm concerned about one player only, Suarez. If we stop him, we should win. We have everyone back when we play them. Winning this game would convince me that we are capable of reaching Champions League qualification.
Maybe I'm too confident?

On the pitch the gap is now minimal. Off the pitch is massive if they get there house in order.

We need a take over!!

We need Billy Liar out. Kopites must be delighted every single day that feller's here sucking the lifeblood out of Everton and corrupting our standards.

For the 'power to shift' as you say Everton need to start winning trophies again. Finishing a few points ahead of them every season doesnt mean nothing, especially if they are picking up the odd trophy along the way.

I think we will win them both this year, I genuinely think that not only do we have better team, but we have a different approach and they will not cope with us at all.
Not sure why, always feel like we will lose these, even last year when we were above them and looking good, still thought we would lose, this year I have a different feeling about 'em. This team could genuinely do something the way they are playing despite a leaky defence and their 1/1 shot to goal ability against us.

Don't do it to yourself mate!!!

think the original post is totally wrong, there has been no power shift, on the contrary, the gap has got wider in real terms.

judge it by the commerical revenue, judge it buy the transfer activity, judge it by the on the pitch and off the pitch ambition, judge it by the fan numbers, but dont use some selective stats.

im sorry, but where miles behind liverpool as a club, and the constant obsession with comparing ourselves to them is embarassing.

You do realise the entire point of all this money is to get points on the board?

I don't give a fook how many shirts they sell in Taiwan or how much Warrior gives them per season - what happens on the pitch is all that matters.

The fact you feel revenue and transfer activity* is more important that actual football is the embarrassing thing.

* Mirallas, Gibson, Jelavic, Pienaar & Oviedo = £15m.

Borini, Downing, Carroll, Henderson & Allen = £100m so what's your point?

This whopping new shirt deal didn't exactly help them in the summer did it? Couldn't afford an extra £4m for Dempsey.

The extra shekels are blatantly paying for Jay Dubya's new super-yacht.

All the reds I know are feeling a bit embarassed by their club atm.

Which is fookin hilarious, and I suspect means they wouldn't argue that we've AT LEAST closed the gap.

Silly thread. They're clearly a much, much bigger club than us in terms of finance, worldwide fan base and overall league positioning over a relevant period of time.

There's a touch of the deluded about GOT at the moment, with stupid (and serious) threads about winning the league, being bigger than the Reds after six games, Howard is better than Reina etc.

You say delusion, I say optimism, its probably something inbetween tho.

I don't think we're particuarly healthy as a club (though I'm still less worried about relegation than you are) and I'd be shocked if we achieve anything of note this season but Liverpool have gone seriously backwards over the last three years and I don't know why everyone is trying to ignore that.

Yes they finished 2nd four years back but that's clearly not going to happen again anytime soon.

I think Davek put it best as like being homeless and watching the bloke next door set fire to his mansion. Sure, he'll eventually rebuild but until he does you're both living in the gutter.

There hasn't been a power shift - but at the moment I feel very comfortable (after 10+months of being pretty bloody good) that we have a better side.

For there to be a defined "power shift", I think we'd need to finish above them a fair few seasons in a row, win something and qualify for the Champions League.
