I'm glad it was done with humour because otherwise it'd have been what the cinema goers call a 'weepy'. More power to him for his bravery and honesty.
OK. I missed the jist of the show.. I flicked it on for about 8 seconds and he was telling a joke... Was it not a stand up gig?
He's on stage for an hour talking, and there's jokes so it is a stand up gig. You'll understand when you watch it.

Turns out O'Briain is adopted, and was forcibly taken from his mother by that arm of the Irish state that dealt with unmarried mothers, and outlines the difficulties and journey to find out who he is, when he was born and who his parents are. He gets a lot more laughs than I'll garner on this subject.
