So Badminton is a middle class sport, but Cycling isn't ?

'Wiggins was born in Ghent, Belgium, where his Australian father, Gary, an endurance cyclist, was based. When his parents separated in 1982, he moved to London with his mother to stay with his maternal grandparents at the Dibdin House estate in Maida Vale.'

'
Hoy was educated at George Watson's College, a Scottish independent school in Edinburgh, followed by the University of St Andrews in 1996.'

'
Victoria Louise Pendleton, and her twin brother Alex James, were born on 24 September 1980 in Stotfold, Bedfordshire, England, to Max Pendleton, a keen cyclist and former British national grass-track cycling champion, and Pauline M Viney'

Real working class struggles going on there.

Being the kids of cycling champions doesn't make you not working class. You cant call Wiggins anything other than what he is: working class. He's from a working class background.

In any case, they are (poor) examples that prove the general rule.

At the end of the day mate every Olympian works very, very, very hard to be there. If a bit of working class backstory makes you enjoy it more than fair enough, but to say that all the hours and sweat those two rowers have put in to bring this under-performing country its first gold are null and void because they're a bit posh is silly.

Not to mention the fact that there's middle class people in all sports.

Must suck having to hate a certain event because the people competing were born into a bit of money. Imagine being that bitter.

Boom! Very well said.

Drives me to distraction how he tries to push his outwardly negative view on this board- everything is to do with politics or being posh or money. Im so bored of it. Just cant believe people hold him high regard. Pffft...

I wouldn't say so much in Britain, but in Europe cycling is a very working class sport. Anyhoo, Wiggins out on the course.
