Well. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cew5rwpw579o

I always thought perjury was a crime, and that assisting an offender was a crime.

@davek let's see you land this on Starmzy please...

make it this perfect...

That's narrow political short termism though isn't it?

For a flag shagger like Starmer surely he'd see that Trump is gone in 4 years time - out before his party face the next election here - and that the interests of the UK can never be getting closer to the US at the expense of the UKs biggest trading partners in the EU...and that choice is coming despite what Starmer says about keeping close to both.

The key to understanding this craven positioning of the Starmer Party is that Starmer is a creature of the US - he's been on board with US intelligence since his very early days as a lawyer and has made international 'security' his leitmotif. That's what drives Starmer on a personal level and it'll mean a lot more brown-nosing toward Washington, whatever political stripe is in control there.

6 months in. There's so much turmoil I don't think he or the party have positioned themselves in anything concrete which will be a detriment or a positive longer term.

Brexit vote mk II

Will diminish reform, and instantaneously boost the economy by opening trade. It also confines the thatcher won sweeteners to history so her legacy can be roundly forgotten on at least that front.

Oh there's clear positives.

But just think of the hellfire the Tories /Reform/Brexit lot will bring down on him. He'll get painted a dictator overturning a democractic vote...but like Trump. Which would be ironic when they're all in bed with him

Oh I know it can't happen for another ten years, that was the excuse trotted out against the snp when they wanted another independence referendum. "You've had one, this generation has spoken" etc.

It's simply appalling that the greatest act of national self harm in history has to be allowed to fester and continue for another decade of pain and suffering to the most worse off before we acknowledge the need for a rethink.

former great britain, cutting through the bullspit and delivering change for the good.

It'd be quite some about face if the very people uk weapons and military support was being used (by the israeli's) against, in this case the gazan's, were then given sanctuary in the country of their annihilation enablers.

Besides some sort of underlying forced exodus scheme to steal a populous, it'd be very much a case of contradictory behaviours.

In a position left to them though. Tories were already brown nosing with Trump (see the ones that went over to his 2nd inauguration) to have a "relationship". Then completely destroyed any relationships with the EU.

So one side you've got a US dictator who's stance hasn't really changed (if the Tories thought they'd get "favours" from him, they never did), so they need to deal with that. Trump does no one any favours unless he gets something in return better than what he's getting.

On the EU front they need to mend the relationships with them which would upset the majority that voted for Brexit.

So it's lose face with voters or play both sides.

There's no choice they make that won't upset people.
So you upset the right people.

The Tories are saying that any reciprocal tariffs would be pointless because the UK on its own doesn't export enough to the US. So, bend over without lube. That's a breathtaking repudiation of Brexit, because if you were still in the EU you would be able to do serious damage to the Americans. As we will soon see.

Starmer is wasting his time hoping for a closer relationship with the EU now. Any chance of a reset is gone - this just confirmed what many Europeans suspected in recent months when his willingness to compromise and move towards mutually-beneficial positions was remarkably cool. How a once-proud country has fallen, a mere pawn between giants.

How is Reeves competence in any question whatsoever after kwarteng, truss, and this...

And the ppe fraud, the covid business loans fraud, and...

and then...

Who are these jokers? These are the same fools that...

Ah, sovereignty in action!
