Can we stick to the topic please and less of the personal insults. People are entitled to their own opinion and just cos you dont agree with someones opinion it doesn't give you the right to throw insults.

The three words I have for you rhyme with the following.
Go tuck yourself in.

Hmm, I am having trouble coming up with words that rhyme with go and yourself to make a coherent statement.

As for this, stop acting like children in the playground, or I will have to hand out cards.

Translation: STOP BEING TITS, both of you.

Agree that the strength of protest is directly related to the (lack of) success on the pitch. But I don't think it's true that protesting necessarily attracts derision from the media if it is justified and being done for the right reasons, whether a club is being successful on the pitch or not.

OK maybe not “necessarily”. However, I can imagine the sub editor at the Echo rubbing his hands in glee whilst looking at a picture of a fans protest. With the headline “Everton ensure their best start for 20 years “.....

Good post, I agree with most of that. I think our squad is very good, not just the 1st team. Once the season starts I wonder if the criticisms ebb and flow along with results on the pitch. If after 6 games we are near the bottom I can foresee physical protests. However if we make a great start, any howls of protest will be relegated to the forums.

Even without signings I think we're stronger than we were this time last season. Moyes seems to now have an idea of how to get the best out of Arteta and Osman and, hopefully, he's on to something playing Bily through the middle. Gueye is starting to emerge as a genuine contender for a place. Barkley is certain to get game time this season. And Baxter has once again ran the show in Moscow. I would be surprised if we start the new season as slowly as we have done in previous years. Our preparation looks to be pretty much spot on this time round.

like Cahill said, players feel fine, team is in good spirits! new signings are welcome but not necessary, players have confidence to the squad we already have.

The point isn't the strength of the squad, it's despite of rather than because of support from the board that Moyes and the squad have achieved what they have.

The point, in my view, is that we've gone from being the fifth best team in the country to finishing 8th and 7th in the last two years and instead of being able to try and claw our way back up by buying in the transfer market and fixing the weaknesses that have been exposed over the last two years, we're talking about going with what we've got again despite all the teams around us strengthening.

There comes a point where the gap in quality is too large for good coaching and tactics to bridge so you need to buy and we can't do that. The definition of madness is doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results and that's exactly what we're doing.

But then Liverpool have spent 80-odd million, City have bottomless pockets and Spurs are capable of attracting players of Van der Vaart's quality. We couldn't possibly compete financially. Is it worth chasing after them and indebting ourselves, perhaps perilously so, or do we adopt another approach such as focussing on youth? Arsenal are a 'selling club', but they're the masters at it. With a bit more killer instinct they can become Champions. They've arguably got the most talented players. Ajax are another example. They fell by the way side for a bit, but now they're bringing through players and competing again. I think it was something like 7 of the Dutch World Cup final side had played for Ajax. Even Barcelona don't generally spend big money. I can only really think of Dani Alves, Mascherano and Villa who were sizeable purchases. We haven't got the cash, so we can't follow the traditional route. We do seem to have made strides with the alternative model though. Can we ask for any more?

Bryan Reade, what's your username lad? I'll give you some pos rep and an internet bumming.

I agree with D-man though, no nastiness. :)

Sorry Dylan, I just reacted a bit quickly to being told what I can and cant post, and what is constructive or not in the eyes of one member that isn't a mod/admin/site owner. That it saw its backside over what I consider a very valid point (emotion vs the bottom line) lends further weight to my belief that a certain element are on the troll.
Back on point, the Mirror is a rag. I am certain Moyes will spend (Re: Moyes Budget thread). Unfortunately anyone that doesn't get on the bandwagon (think kopite stupidity!) gets branded an 'apologist'. The anti-board brigade on here are so obnoxious that they stifle all debate with slurs and put-downs toward anyone that isn't automatically on their precious bandwagon (kopite mentality - win the league, Joe Cole, Benitez...etc...)
A very similar bunch crawled back under their rocks when Moyes signed Fellaini, and when we brough Heit Bily and Distin. When the climate isn't to their liking they go all quiet.

Based on one game against a lower league team. The preparation was going grand last season as well until we played anyone decent. I applaud and agree with your optimism regarding the current squad, but the problem remains that we have no strength in depth. We don't have to blow £80m on overpriced players like the RS have done, but a reasonable amount of money invested properly would make all the difference. It's not just those above and around us in the league, it's those below that are strengthening, and our task each season is getting ever more difficult. Anyone who gets complacent about the current position i.e. 'we'll be up there again like we always are' is a fool. It's not being a doom merchant but being realistic to say that if something is not done soon regarding our financial position, we will only go in one direction. And it's not forward.

OMG words fail me.

Once again......

Put the crack pipe down.....

One of the big problems we face is we have a bunch of younger fans who think it's cool to be pluckily punching above our weight, whereas guys my age remember us being champions and described by Austrian legend Hans Krankl as the best side in Europe. To the former, Kenwright may be doing okay; to the latter, he deserves to be taken out and horse-whipped around the streets of Liverpool.
