The demise of our Club

I have opened this post to underline the difference between ambition and the lack of it. Unfortunately I will have to use our friends across the park to highlight this and believe me it doesn't give me any pleasure.
Since 1987 when we were the best side in England we have wallowed in the illusion that we are this big club who have a seat at the top table.
Granted we are the 4th most decorated club in the English game but since that year we have won only 1 trophy, the FA Cup in 1995 going like lambs to the slaughter on many an occasion to the big grounds in England as well as losing semi's and 1 final as brave little Everton.
I have mentioned before on this forum that when Kendall announced he was going in '87, I wrote to him when he was quoted in the Echo as saying he had achieved everything he could. In a nutshell I asked him to walk over the park and look in their trophy cabinet and then reconsider what he really could achieve. He also said he was an 'Evertonian'. It may annoy some people but I scoffed at this too, I knew that I was (and still am) and therefore not interested in Athletic Bibao, Barca, or any other side, only Everton. Didn't do much good, he left in any case.
The mismanagement of those days is still relevant as we continue to wait for feedback after another shocking season. We are dilly-dallying over whether to go forward with a manager who is clearly out of his depth and at this crucial point were we could make a positive statement of our ambition, we say nothing only what a nice man he is.
I look over at that lot not only their achievement's in terms of trophies (7 since 1995 in what they consider a barren spell with generally mediocre sides), but also in their determination to hire the right man for the job. Hodgson, Dalglish and Rodgers shared five and a half years between them before they were shown the door collectively because LFC will not stand for mediocrity. I fear with this new fella their honours list will grow rapidly all because they recognised the need to move for the best option at the right time.
Our Club has lacked finances over the years and all know that while this is a legitimate factor other variables have meant we are now in the same bracket as West Ham, Southampton, Stoke etc....whether we like it or not. All this 'Evertonian's are born not manufactured', 'Once Everton has touched you nothing is the same', 'We go the game' blah, blah, blah is just a marketing smokescreen with the intention of taking our season ticket money.
I for one am thoroughly fed up and just wish they would tell us what the hell is going on, if anything.

I get your frustration mate, I find when I've reached this level of frustration with Everton that Elephants trying to show jump cheers me right up. I hope this helps.

Prepare for a telling off about self-entitlement.

The difference between Everton and the rest of the traditional power clubs is that this is the only one which would allow a short blip in an otherwise glorious history to define its identity.

My opinion is that Kenwright did away with ambition because he couldn't afford it. He would rather run the club in mediocrity than simply support it as something else; hence the debacles that were Kings Dock and Kirkby.

Nothing will ever change as long as he has a voice in the boardroom. He's the worst thing to ever happen to us.

Good post mate, but would you swap all that, to wake up one morning, look in the mirror, and realise you're a kopite. See. It could be a lot worse.
