The Budget

This.

25% departmental cuts across the board. Winter of Discontent on its way. It's like the phony war at the moment.

That's 25% over 4 years, not all at once. It also doesn't include any departments in the public sector that have been ring fenced (which I disagree with, but that's how you appease the masses by keeping the bulky and wasteful NHS topped up with billions of pounds).

With regards the state pension age going up to 66 it was already going up to 68 as was announced in the pensions act of 2007. All they are doing is moving it forward a little quicker, it was supposed to be increased over 22 year period, what it is now I'm not sure.

For the record you can agree that the debt needs to be reduced and still disagree with specific cuts. There are other ways to make money, and other things that can be cut. I disagree with going after benefits and public sector jobs. That doesn't mean that I'm all for the country being in debt.

And like I've said before not liking the Tories doesn't mean I'm in support of everything new labour did. I can dislike them both and not want either in charge.

Scrap Trident.
Raise taxes.
Allow industry the time and room to develop in order to increase revenue.

Alternatively, we could go the present recommended route of taking demand out of the economy by slashing public sector spending and risk a double dip recession and make those on low pay and benefits pay back the bail out money the banks trousered since autumn 08.

Yes, yes I am since you ask Mr Tory x

On Tuesday, George "We're All in This Together" Osborne took £2 billion from the banks, £11 billion from welfare and then grafted a further £17 billion on to Labour's £44 billion cuts in public spending which we all (except the bankers) rely on - and still managed to use the word "fair"!

The total package of £113 billion to be cut from annual government spending over the next four years is £9 billion more than the entire annual spending on the NHS. It's the equivalent of shutting down the NHS. The package of welfare cuts and tax rises, public sector jobs and services savaged, will hardly leave an ordinary family untouched. It will leave potholes across every facet of our lives.

Received that, from my socialist friends. Scary reading.

So glad I got out of Blighty when I did. Enjoy your Tory mismanaged Health and Education systems, I'll just stay right here in the sunshine thank you very much.

Your right what do I know!

Think the idea that its liverpool and not the North West region that will suffer is misguided though, we will suffer again as a region, like we did previously.

As for Matt Damon, how can he honestly say that the VAT increase wont affect food prices.

There will be a 2.5% increase in the original cost of materials, utilites, transport, supplier increases. its not true to just say that these costs will be reclaimed, how many companies will have to put up their prices to cover their VAT bill (if not just to increase profits)

I can understand the need for VAT increase (don't mean I like it!), but to say it won't affect food prices is naive at best.
