The 5/4/2016 pro Martinez thread

He was 17 before.

He has matured and developed but that would have happened under any manager. He was already around the fringe of the 1st team with moyes

And yes mistakes are good if used as a learning opportunity but I think Martinez hurts him and stones by constantly spouting about how good they are despite poor performances
Nah fully disagree, particularly after the double leg break Ross suffered.
There's plenty of stories of talented youngsters on the fringe of the first team that have fallen away. It is fully to Martinez's credit that not only did he play him, he made him the center of the team and a first choice player. Then instead of being a one season wonder Ross has developed and become a better more mature player under his management.
When you look at the number of talented players who fall by the wayside I fully disagree with the concept that Martinez has held Ross back and that he would have developed exactly the same under any manager.
Two pretty serious injuries Ross has suffered at a young age, and in spite of that is a far better player than he was.

I would wait till the end of the season and see if he can pull a win out of the bag and give the fans two days out at Wembley plus we would have euro football as well.

The only way I want rid of Martinez if a world class manager was taking over like Jose but that not happening. He does need to improve in lots of ways and he running out of games.

He got to get the players playing at a team
He got to instill energy, hunger, passion into the players
He got to work at set pieces

I'm a massive fan of his but even my patient is growing thin. At the end of the day it's all about wins, he can save this season with an f.a cup win.

Can we just stop with the Kendall or Ferguson comparison, when was the last time since them that a manager was close to getting the sack and ended up winning everything? It was a different time, and football is a very different place now.

I went every week when Howard came home.Remember he was player/manager.The squad was poor and he had to build which he done slowly.Bobby had a good squad good team ethics which he as the manager has taken apart .
Maybe the football is pleasant on the eye but the results and league table aren't.
Not sure about this. Kendall inherited some solid but aging players and very good young players who needed time. I'd say similarities are quite big.
Big difference was the youngsters could be taken out of limelight and get time in a very good reserve team.

The quality of football being served up is completely overrated. People are saying it's the best football in 30 years. Really? You could have fooled me. It's not good football at all. It looks good when we hammer someone like Villa, Sunderland or Newcastle, and it's looks absolutely bloody awful when we play anyone who is above 15th in the table.

My fear is that we act like a small club and keep Martinez on for another year, we end up finishing somewhere utterly average like 9th place next season, and his fanboys will be saying "Oh look at the progress, something special is on the horizon", so we carry on messing about with Martinez until the end of his contract in 2019. We will only have ourselves to blame.

So Moyes hadn't started bringing him into the first team and wouldn't have earlier only for his leg break.

Just because some young players don't make it Ross wouldn't have except for Martinez.

Look at Martinez record of bringing young players through and look at moyes record.

You're crazy if you think he wouldn't have come through under any manager.

....also, Kendall and SAF improved and progressed over time. We appear to be in reverse at the moment.

Yep - i didnt want to turn it into the other martinez thread - but this is also true! Its just a stupid argument to attempt to give someone time who shouldn't have it. No-one has done that in an age and it should be left that way.

Times have changed in that there is very little chance of most teams winning everything. There is evidence that you are more likely to get short term improvement when you change manager but in long term problems tend to reoccur and performance slumps further.
Doesn't mean some managers are just wrong for a club but generally I think clubs should think more carefully about it. It's often a personality clash.

Let's see how this runs. Some people are in support of the manager and while I don't share their view, it's their opinion and is just as valid as mine or anyone else's.

If it turns into another general Roberto thread then we can close it.

Please let us decide which are open and closed mate. ;)
booooooooooooooooooooooooooo

All positivity has been sucked out of the club thanks to him and 2 seasons of pure dross.

I am amazed that because we have played a bit of decent footy, some fans think he is the second coming of total football and over glorify what other teams in the league are doing on a more consistent basis.

We are a complete shambles, with players speaking out against what is going on and strolling around in games playing sloppy half arsed football because he has installed into them that it is ok to do so.

I am sorry but it is a results based industry and his results and history of PL football stink! I really wanted him to do well, but with the best will in the world, a cup win only papers over the gaping holes.

And if Leicester didn't sack there's they be fighting relegation instead of winning the league

Not so sure about that, Dunc.......they might not have been heading toward the Title but I don't think they would be down the bottom either.

Leicester's transformation started in January of last year and their form in the second half if the season was the equal or better than that of champions Chelsea.

It was Pearson set the ball rolling.

Plus he wasn't fired for owt that was happening on the pitch......it was for being a berk off it.
