I know this is the Everton womens thread, and womens footie is not everyone's cup of tea, but what about this for a goal, worthy of replay after replay in the local derby as well

Got to say i think that's a better goal than the one Fernandes bagged last Saturday against us (note making it Everton related :)). I had some problems with Olsen (sorry, and please no one respond that Robin would have saved this one :)) on that goal given his height. Admittedly here, Weir's not clipping it over a 6 foot 5 keeper, but she's got a nice bit of pace on it. A lovely strike.....

Everton came into this game on the back of only 1 win in 8 league games and that was against the current bottom team who are conceeding goals for fun, They were today up against a Reading team who pulled off a shock result at man utd last week to give man utd a 1st home league defeat in 13months, Reading have won all 4 meetings at home between us - 3 of them in the top league, but despite now been level on points with Everton they have not actually won in 6 home games and are the draw specialist, Everton on the other hand have lost the last 3 away in the league but when you see they were at Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal its not really a surprise as Everton always have problems v the better teams mostly not just away but at home, Everton have been top 5 all season but today they would be 6th if a defeat. Everton made 2 changes to the starting line up from the Birmingham game with Sorensen and Young Grace clinton going on the bench and replaced with Abbey-Leigh Stringer and a full debut for Alisha Lehmann, there was also a keeper change on the bench with recent number 1 Sandy MacIver who was a sub last week not in the squad and she was replaced by young english 18 year old star Anna Pederson

Reading should have been 1 up on 5mins when Danielle Carter layed a ball through to Amalie Eikeland, she was clean through holding off the defender but her shot was very well saved low down to her left by Korpela, Rachel Rowe almost converts the rebound, but her effort was deflected away for a Reading throw. Reading were applying all the early pressure with it looking like Everton were trying to catch them out on the counter attack, on 22mins Reading again had a shot from Amalie Eikeland which came from a loose ball and her shot centrally from outside the box was again well dealt with by Korpela. on 25mins Reading this time from an in swinging free kick from made its way to Eikeland at the back post, but her touch hits the post, with the ball then been cleared off the line and over by Meg Finnigan [chance below] , Gauvin finally had a touch of a chance for Everton's 1st attempt but her header was weak and wide from a Sevecke cross, less than a minute later Izzy Christiansen then after a twist and turn dragged her shot wide, but the goal that had looked likely from Reading finally arrived on 35mins when Mitchell's cross comes in from the left, Carter challenges for the ball but the Everton defender Turner heads it against the Reading player with the ball then falling to Rachel Rowe to volley in, Korepla looked like she was actually comming to catch it when she had no real chance, Emma Mitchell effort Reading was speculative, but it flew over from 30 yards, Izzy christiansen then had a 30 yard shot very easy for the Reading keeper, But it was 1-0 Reading who more than deserved their lead in a game Everton were not anywhere near the standards they can and have been at times this season

There was no subs from Everton at half time which going off the 1st half may have been a surprise, on 60mins Everton made a double sub that started to turn the game a little in Everton's favour as they then had 2 half a chances in seconds when Jill Scott and Izzy Christiansen shots inside the area were blocked, and finally after playing so much better since the subs were made, Everton got a deserved goal on 77mins with a brilliant header from Everton's Denmark sub Sorensen, She was perfectly placed to meet a far post cross but there was still plenty of work to do,but she directed the header back where the ball came from into the opposite corner for a rare headed goal, Magill had chance to win it for Everton but scuffed her shot into the hands of moloney, on 86mins Raso got into the box but didnt connect with her effort as she would've liked and it's a simple stop for the Reading keeper, but she had players free to her left and was a bit greedy, Reading were so close to getting a winner on 93mins when a free kick was met by Bartrip, who's shot went just past the post, The game ended 1-1 which as said is Reading most knowing result and kept Everton 5th in the league above their Host Reading with Everton having 2 games in hand, Everton looked the most likley to win the match from the minute the subs were made, Everton's next game is now in 2 weeks away at spurs

Poor defending for their goal, great header by Sorenson for the equaliser.

Anyone know whats the matter with McKeever? She's missed the last 2 games I think.

SUNDAY 28TH FEBRUARY 2PM KO
WOMENS SUPER LEAGUE
SPURS WOMEN 2 EVERTON WOMEN 3

Everton came into this game in 5th place ahead of Reading on GD but with 2 games in hand, a position they have held or been higher than the whole season, hoping to cement it looking for only their 2nd League win in 10 games, and their 1st away win in 4 games away to a Spurs side in 8th place and 7 points behind with a game in hand, Everton started the day 4 points off a 4th placed Arsenal team who have not been good by their high standards which shows how big a missed opportunity Everton look to have missed out on for a top 4 place this season, Oddly this was Spurs 1st home league game in nearly 3months after winning their last 2 home games 3-1, The corresponding Fixture here last season saw the game end 2-2 in what was a so one sided 1st 65mins from Everton that i will never know how they failed to win missing chance after chance, they somehow then conceeded 2 goals in 5mins the 2nd of them one minute after Spurs were down to 10 players to end 2-2, while Everton also missed an open goal in the final minute to sum up that game that night. Everton have won the 2 home meeting including the 1-0 win in the 2nd game of the season, while the only away game between the 2 is that 2-2 i just said

There were 2 changes from the Reading game with Maclver replacing Korpela in goal, Maclver has not played the last 2 - the 1st one she was left out due to form and the 2nd one she was left out the squad totally for some reason so she could be ok for England, Always club 1st for me. With Sorensen comming back into the starting 11 replacing Lehmann, Poppy Pattinson was back on the bench for the 1st time since she suffered a stress fracture, it was a very sunny and warm day completely different to the game called off about a month ago due to very heavy snow

Spurs started a bit better than Everton and it was almost a great chance for Spurs to be 1 up on 3mins when Spurs countered and Percival played through Addison. She breaks towards goal on a free run but a great recovery challenge from Turner who got back and deflected the shot for a corner, But on 8mins it was Everton who took the lead when they were awarded a pen for handball by Kerys Harrop, and the pen was slotted home in cool fashion by Valerie Gauvin for her 1st league goal since mid october v Brighton and her 1st since the cup final despite the keeper going the right way, off course she has only been back a few weeks after that long Injury, On 18mins Everton were awarded a 2nd pen when Kerys Harrop was adjudged to have fouled Sevecke, and watching replay it was the right call after Sevecke was dragged down, It was Gauvin again who took the pen and just like the 1st one she was again very cool sending the keeper the wrong way, Gauvin was so close to getting her hattrick on 25mins when Moe Wold took off at pace down the right and played a one-two with Emslie. She then sends a cross in. Gauvin leaps and her header dips just over the bar. Spurs nearly got 1 back on 28mins when an inswinging cross by Kit Graham was met by Alana Kennedy but her sweep shot was against the post but on 35mins spurs did get one back and it was all Everton's own doing when they were playing out from the back with the ball won in Midfield by spurs player Kit Graham-she played a lovely over the top ball and Angela Addison beat the on comming Sandy Maclver to dink it past her for a class finish, Gauvin then had a header at the back post easily saved by the Spurs keeper Mikalsen, but half time came with the score 2-1 Everton

Spurs had the 1st shot of the 2nd half on 47mins when MacIver saved Ayane's shot at the near post after an Everton clearance was blocked, Gauvin had header that seemed to take a deflection on 49mins from a excellent Izzy christiansen cross, Everton again were close on 53mins when they broke into the box down the left with Gauvin's shot been blocked by Shelina Zadorsky, but again just like last season Spurs came from 2 down to be level on 57mins when the scorer Gemma Davison, who was not even named in the starting line up till a late change worked space and nestled a low shot in the far corner after getting a touch lucky the way it came back to her, but Spurs were not level for long as Everton retook the lead on 61mins when on loan star Jill Scott scored with a header at the near post from a corner-her 1st Everton goal since a Derby goal in 2013 in the week of her 150th England cap-only the 2nd English player to reach that total, it should have been 4 for Everton on 69mins when a brilliant angled cross from Emslie found christiansen just about ahead of the spurs defender but her shot left footed was wide of the near post when a far post shot was the best chance, Raso was close for Everton on 75mins when her shot was was saved by the spurs keeper to her right, Dan Turner then had a wayward shot way over on 81mins for Everton, Magill show wide for Everton on 88mins, Everton then had to survive the standard men's Injury time of 5mins when they are ahead, But Everton held on for a deserved win for only their 2nd win in 10 games and their 1st away win since that 6-0 win at Villa early Ocotber, they now have the hard task of trying to play Man City next week, a team that Everton lose game after game to for many years
