Machiavelli had it right.

There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things. For the reformer has enemies in all those who profit by the old order, and only lukewarm defenders in all those who would profit by the new order, this lukewarmness arising partly from fear of their adversaries … and partly from the incredulity of mankind, who do not truly believe in anything new until they have had actual experience of it.

There are a whole lot of people with a vested interest in the political environment staying just as it is. With the media jumping and hyping up any little thing as well, it's not surprising that nothing is likely to change.

Sums up the Scottish referendum quite aptly, too.

Ukip now getting Tory donors as well as Tory voters and Tory politicians.

How long intill the rename themselves New Conservatives

I thought it was a good speech by Cameron, I'm not convinced about how he's going to pay for tax cuts across the board especially when he's making concrete promises about NHS etc. I hope (surprise, surprise) that he's planning to cut discretionary and social care spending. Maybe increase defence spending a little bit? Those outdated Tornadoes being sent to Syria are making me feel nauseous, I'm surprised they haven't been shot down yet haha

The Tories say they're not privatising the NHS. They are.

The Tories say they've protected spending on the NHS. They haven't.

If you believe a word that comes out that idiots mouth about the NHS then you're being fooled.

That's my concern yeah. It's easy to cheer for tax cuts for the middle class but what does that mean in 5 years time? Healthcare reform? Welfare reform? Slashing income taxes could be a race to the bottom although I'm hoping it won't be.

Our local Trust has just lost their drug service to a private company based in London. I presume they won the tender due to the promise of how much cheaper they can run the service. They have no knowledge of the local area, no knowledge of the local service users. We now have about 120 people who are going to be on lower wages if they choose to stay or probably out of work depending on what the private company decides. How can that benefit the country as a whole? You'll probably have half of those people out of work in a year with some claiming benefits or at least being paid less and therefore spending less so how does it help the economy? You'll also have a much worse service for the local people. This is what I don't understand about the Tory mentality. A few will benefit while the majority will miss out and people somehow find this acceptable.

Just saw that conference from Cameron

Never seen one man spew so much crap from his mouth in that period of time

He won't stick to 90% of what he has just promised...

1. Its not an isolated incident. Thousands of people have become the victims of European crime whether it be rape, fraud or anything else.
2. Even if it was, 1 innocent girl is too many.
Then quote those stats to make your case mate, using one isolated case as you have done doesnt prove anything, any system policing thousands upon thousands of people can fail once, and saying one is too many makes you sound like a politician seeking a cheap round of applause, i know thats not the case as you clearly believe in what your saying even though i disagree, and it doesnt really do your argument much good

Nice of Cameron to discriminate against single people.

With regards to benefits, I would restrict child support to two kids per parent and above 21 year old's and only if they have an employment or college education history and forbid anything being paid to foreigners after 3 months unless they have a comprehension of basic English. Finally, JSA and Housing Benefit / Council Tax benefit should only be paid to those helping in the community unless they have valid reasons for not being able to do so.

What a load of bollocks he on one hand says he is going to pay back 25billion by cuts/savings then says you can have tax cuts worth 7and a half billion also paid for by savings like to see him pull that off and have the sort of fair country he talks about.
If he is that good how come we have managed to borrow so much while his current lot have been in charge and cutting everything in sight

If they have won the contract then at least give them a chance before you harangue them. Someone in the NHS must have chosen them.

Well its a good thing I don't have to prove anything to you.

And tbh they wouldn't even have the statistics. We have literally no idea who is here.

I know its a newspaper article but you get the idea:

I don't want any part of the NHS, especially one on my doorstep, sold off to a private company down South. They were chosen by the local CCG, not the NHS. You know the CCG's that the Tories brought in after promising no reforms of the NHS before they got in power.
