Andy King
The Andy King testimonial was the worst attended testimonial I have been to. I think it was a midweek, mid-season match against Man City and we played a mixture of trialists and youth players. Only the Upper Bullens was open. IIRC it cost more to stage than the money recouped. It was the total opposite reflection of the affection in which he was held, I remember seeing a little notice in the Echo the day before so went along with my best mate. A shame. And we got battered 4-0 I think.

Have to laugh at Hibbert getting one. Worst right back in living history, only stayed so long with us as we couldn't even give him away. Disgrace that he got one, summed up by the comedy pitch invasion which was basically people laughing at how pathetic a footballer he was due to him playing over a decade and never even threatening to score a goal.

Over 30,000 tickets sold for today making it the biggest attendance for a testimonial/pre season game at Goodison for at least 20 years.

Bear in mind, Everton vs CD Everton in 2010 got 25,000, Dave Watson testimonial got 25,000 in 1997 vs Rangers, and Neville Southall testimonial got 22,000 vs Celtic in 1995.

Big Dunc is beloved!

Just an icon though played for the club when struggling Hope the weathers stays fine !

Yeah it was that league centenary thing, shudders thinking of the Real Madrid game.
I remember that game - didn't we win 3-1, and Hughes nodded in the consolation for them? I don't recall it being a testimonial though. I recall it as being some League-organised thing to celebrate the centenary of something or other. Mercantile-sponsored event?

Maybe my memory's going though.

Really made up that so many turned up today. Dun gave us everything, goals, punches, sendings off.......you loved or hated him. He gave us nightmares but at times he gave us joy, so we'll done Big Man.

When he passed away there was a story in the Echo about that and something about Everton had told him it wasn't going to be well attended and they could just give him money and cancel the testimonial but he didn't want to. Not sure if he played in the testimonial but I thought that was a class thing that it was meant to make him money but he was more arsed about the game.
