Remember when he left/frozen out under mysterious circumstances?

He said all would be revealed but I think we're still waiting?

Martinez dropped him for Stones because he wanted to play out from the back.

Distin didn't like it and threw a moody.

Ultimately we lost crucial games that season all because of Martinez's insistence on style of football over using players to simply do a job.

Martinez was eventually chased out of the club and will forever be remembered as a fraud. Distin knows there's no point coming out and saying anything now, everyone saw the truth for themselves. That's all really.

Hope he's doing alright, he came over to watch Bellew win the world title at Goodison and a lot of the club staff were overjoyed to see him which shows he was well-liked at the club. Had more good moments than bad, doesn't deserve for what happened at Wembley to be his defining money.

As quick as I am to tell anyone Martinez was a clueless fraud and one of the worst managers in Premier League history, the decision to drop Distin was one he actually did get right. It was humiliating watching him try to play football that last season, the Chelsea 6-3 game was the end.

He looked past it definitely and Martinez did do the right thing by dropping him but he still would have had his uses for certain games if Martinez had only put his ego to the side.

There's a very good chance we'd have lifted the Europa League that season had Roberto played Distin against Kiev rather than his circus clown mate from Wigan. 4 of their goals in that 2nd leg literally came about because the man couldn't clear a ball with his head.

Distin probably would have just passed the ball right into the path of their best player without looking.

I still fume thinking about it.

He couldn't accept not being first choice even in his old age. Ridiculous really, could have been a great squad player for us and extended his career yet threw a hissy and we were left playing Alcaraz. Him and Jags were never a great partnership but either of them worked better with Heitinga or Stones for example. Sadly Moyes and Martinez kept playing them even when Heitinga was player of the season.

One manager role that Martinez had to fulfil and ultimately failed to do successfully was the changing of the guard. He needed to get Osman, Hibbert, Distin and Howard out either quickly or phase them out gently without upsetting egos but instead he continuing playing Howard and Osman who were crap, got lucky Hibbert was always injured and couldn't hold a candle to Seamus anyway and upset Distin behind the scenes to the point of him leaving under a cloud. Better to go the Koeman way and just get rid.
