Sold Lescott for 24 million after 5 years sevice, bought Distin for 5 million and he gave us 5 years service. Great deal for the club, if only our current managers scouts could find such deals, we wouldn't be dooped into getting Barry on a 3 year deal and agreeing to pay 28 Million for LuKAKu

Barry was free and played well last year. they couldn't have predicted he'd turn crap all of a sudden and really he's not that bad when he only plays once a week.

Lukaku has had a crap year in a team playing badly and still scored 19 goals, he will improve and we'll make a profit on him guaranteed.

I don't see how these are bad buys.

Just...no. Completely agree with the first part but the second part just about everyone and all could see a player his age really should not be playing as often as he does. Martinez, tho? Nope, any and every game he is in.

You not been watching this season

As for Distin, I'm gonna hold fire on attacking him yet. We don't know what's gone on and who is being the bell.

All I know is Distin has been a good defender for us for many years. Was brilliant last year. And I find it impossible to believe he'd declined so much over the summer to be dropped behind alcaraz (who's not worthy of wearing the shirt!)

Our defensive woes this season were down to one man (martinez) and I get the feeling Distin has been made scapegoat by roberto. Or maybe Distin said something? Who knows....but since RM changed our tactics at the back wev been solid and kept several clean sheets!

Yes I've been watching this season and one of the changes that RM made that gave us more solidity was dropping Distin.

Distin has told a magazine in France that he was offered a loan deal to West Ham which he wanted to accept but Martinez said no and that the team needed him. Since then, Martinez hasn't spoken to him since.

RM sounds like a right pr*ck over stuff if this is true. If they've fallen out and there's no way of salvaging his career here, then he should have just let him go. Why has he forced him to hang around an extra 6 months?
He obviously feels like Distin's behaviour destabalized the unity of the team and partially was the cause of the bad start.

The way he handled both Distin and Eto'o gives me hope Martinez isn't the nice guy we think he is.

Feel crap for Distin though but football isn't a democracy and he should have known that.

Does he deliver your milk?

Same, It's excruciatingly painful listening to the same interview week after week

Last season I hung on every word he said, with his positivity and enthusiasm feeling electric after Moyes, but as this season has progressed I barely bother now. Still like the fella though, it is learning how to take the rough with the smooth.

Meh he's an employee that can't perform his job properly any more. We got our money's worth easily and it's time for him to move on to somewhere that either doesn't rely on the centre backs being able to pass and control a ball or retire

You expecting a summer clear out then ?

All of this.

I am quite astounded at the number of people wilfully ignoring the bit underlined and in italics though - anyone who says otherwise needs to re-watch the 6 - 3 loss to Chelsea.

I was told that Martinez had a go at Distin for something Distin thought Jags should be equally responsible for, Distin got it both barrels from Martinez, so distin told bobby a few home truths. At the time people laughed at me for this but im not so sure our manager is blameless.

That's like saying Cahill doesn't either, yeah Cahill done all the headline catching stuff but I think Distin has been just as influential at the back, probably one of the best centre halfs in the league a few years ago.

This.
Distin had to replace Lescott, who at the time was one half of the best centre half pairings in the league in my opinion, we got him for 5m and he had to slot straight in as the direct replacement. The man was a machine and i hope he does air the dirty laundry because i have a feeling Martinez is too stubborn at Evertons cost. For those who think this season is a one off - it isnt. Martinez wont change for anyone, far far to stubborn.
