Summer transfer window.

I massively, massively rate Lewis-Skelly but we already have a high-ceiling 19 year old at left back and a high-ceiling 19 year old in centre mid, so I'm not sure how he fits in the squad.

Couple of things to unpack;

Aznou: Highly rated in his youth career & Bayern wanted to keep him. 0 league minutes under Moyes despite a couple of players alluding to the expectation of him getting more game time after Sunderland.

If MLS signs permanently or on loan then this doesnt necessarily signal the end of Aznou.

With European and cup football going to Aznou, MLS could take the premier league games with Aznou deputising.

On loan this would enable Aznou to take the next step in his development while we have a similar profile England international training with him. Th

On a permanent we strengthen the squad and have the position locked down for the long term.

Armstrong: I'm not sure of the correlation here? Different position, not a starter in the league and has the right mentality.

Next season, the keeper, 2 defenders, 2 centre mids and 1 wide player will all be those with a lot of experience. Thats 6/11 players.

I think we can handle having 3 u21 players in the side.

….poor Zat, another dig at the manager 😄

It’s not one of your computer games, the reality is regardless of age players will earn game time. It’s exactly how it should be.

Having both our starter and our squad options for LB be 19 year olds is simply not going to happen. Especially when MLS will almost certainly not be allowed to leave on a perm and would go on a loan instead, in which case you're just developing another clubs player ahead of your own.

I mention Armstrong because long term that is MLS position too, a 6 or an 8. So thats the other place you can play him.

We have Dibling and quite possibly George too which makes for 4 in the squad already which is plenty - and I'm probably closer to you than most when it comes to being happy to play lots of young players.

On the other hand this isn't really true, we know game time under Moyes absolutely isn't a pure meritocracy. It's about whether he feels he can trust you, and he takes a long time to change his mind on that - whether that's gaining it or losing it. We can see that in selections and also ex players have explicitly said it. It is what it is.

I take your point, though I'd hope Moyes made an exception based upon MLS being a coup. On loan I'd still do the deal as it would give Aznou a season playing the european and cup games, ideally to be first choice as MLS goes back.

I dont think 4 u21s is much at all when were talking a 23+ man squad. If were talking permanents we've got Dibling/Aznou and I'd like to see that increase to 6 permanent players.

That's the best way I think we have to get the squad up to the standard we want. Combined with 2 top signings each summer.

Fully agree with the lack of meritocracy which you would think we be frustrating for the younger players involved & that it takes a long time to gain his trust to even get a chance, however I think his trust can be quickly lost which means the younger players only get one shot before going back to the start. They must be aware of it & it must put so much pressure on them which it looks like some can handle (Armstrong) & others cannot, eg Dibling who wilts. It makes Aznou’s cameo all the more remarkable.

It's because David has got it into his head that Aznou isn't strong enough for the PL. IMO.

Jaden Philogene looks a player from the Championship.
Attack minded although no idea what his defensive qualities are.
Just had a knee injury and the Prem and Championship are different worlds, but depends on the price I suppose.

I recall he turned us down to go to Ipswich when Thelwell was after a pacy winger. A few have failed first time in the prem & then come back, Salah & De bruyne come to mind.

However I have no idea if he’s any good. Think Thelwell was originally after Minteh whose done well at Brighton but DCL’s wage demands scuppered that deal with Newcastle (allegedly).

I know what you're getting at but imo there's a difference between 6 u21s in the squad when some are academy players that are happy to just be around the 1st team squad, and our situation when they would be all absolutely expecting to get significant game time. That's hard to manage for most clubs.

Salah and De Bruyne didn't exactly fail, Mourinho said De Bruyne was to lightweight for the League, that's why he headed to Germany.
Salah was just Chelsea being Chelsea..

De Bruyne was always obvious to see his quality, expect Jose has been eating his words since..

To be fair he rejected the idea of playing under dyche
