I don’t think his effort levels are acceptable to be honest. You can clearly see he is a centre forward who doesn’t want to get his kit dirty, and if you lack ability then the very bare minimum you need to do is give the opposition CB’s a hard time. Defenders put their slippers on when they see him on the touchline.
I know what you mean, but I think there's different ways of looking at that type of thing. He's not a Stracqualursi or Beto type who will run through brick walls to try to make up for their lack of ability and there's an argument that he should be doing more of that, I get that. That's not the same though as the sort of 'he's just here for the money and the flash cars/his head's not in it/he just doesn't care/he wants out' type shouts that there have been a lot of (and there are a lot of pretty much any time we have a player who isn't particularly popular).
From what I've seen of him so far, he certainly hasn't gone from the development team of a French 4th division side and unsuccessful trials with Hamilton Academical to playing for France under 21s, in La Liga, and then getting a big money move to the PL by virtue of his astonishing natural ability, so you'd have to assume he's put a fair bit of graft in to get to where he is. If there's one thing we know for absolute certain about
Moyes it's that he will not abide shirkers or poor trainers and he's picked Barry consistently, so again you'd have to assume his manager doesn't believe he's not trying. There were people (and plenty of them) giving him pelters on sunday for a perceived lack of effort when he was quite blatantly doing what he was supposed to be doing, the fact that
they wanted him to go and close the keeper down meant he was lazy apparently, despite the fact he was obviously playing to instructions and his manager was quite content for him to be doing what he was doing. That's the type of thing i'm talking about.
