As for Payet, he's a very good player (having reported on Ligue 1 quite a lot this season). Was vaguely linked to us last year I believe, as he'd had a pretty poor time of it at Marseille, but has flourished this season. Often plays as a classic 10, but is just as good wide left, cutting in and linking play.

He probably would be the type of player RM wants. Experienced and quality. Also, it really wouldn't take that much to buy him (relatively). Yes, Marseille are a bigger club than us, but they're not exactly a European powerhouse, and haven't got loads of money. A valuation of £12mil is realistic.

Payet -- who in the prem is he similar to?

Thauvin had a very poor season by all accounts so may be available cheap.

Imbula we dont really need but may be a goer depending on who leaves this window and where on the pitch cleverley and barkley play next season
