Confident our fans would love him but I doubt he'd come.

Makes a huge difference to FFP. If a player costs 100m on a 4 year contract the amortisation cost for FFP is 25m a year, if the player signs an 8 year contract the amortisation cost is 12.5m a year. That is a lot of money when you consider the amount of players they have signed on long contracts
Didnt they just move to close this loophle, sure i read it on BBC Sport?

WOW, Leicester really are bare bones

I may be out of touch of all this as it doesn't necessarily interest me, but if we sign someone for (let's say) 100,000 a month, thats 1,200,000 a year. If we have them for 4 years we have a commitment of paying them 4,800,000, and thats where the valuation comes it. but if we sign for 8, we have a commitment of paying them 9,600,000. Surely commiting to fewer years here it would be better for FFP. A player wouldn't accept less in their wages for a longer contract would they? A wage is a wage, regardless of length.
Sorry if I've misunderstood the regs. Genuinely not too sure and this is how I would have seen it
Your financial logic is sound and is something Chelsea could do with. There is significant risk with what they are doing.

The thing with FFP is that it is not just about the amount of money, it is all about what money is profit or loss over a 3 year period. If a player is earning 100k a week that is 5.2m a year and there is virtually nothing the club can do about this from a FFP loss perspective, they must accept an annual loss of 5.2m.
However, the transfer fee is also a loss. But if a player costs 100m, you don't take the loss when you buy the player, and nor do you take the loss when you actually pay for the player even if paid in installments. The key is the length of the player's contract. If a 4 yr contract and a 100m transfer fee, the club has an FFP loss of 100m divided by 4 (years) = 25m a year. If the players contract is 8 years then the FFP loss is 100m divided by 8 which is 12.5m a year.

So the 5.2m wages and the FFP loss are added together to see how much the player costs the club each year. On a 4 yr contract, it is 30.2m (25m + 5.2m) and on an 8 year contract the same player would cost 17.7m a year (12.5m + 5.2m). So the difference to the club from an FFP perspective by offering an 8 yr contract is 12.5m per year. As FFP is calculated over 3 years that is a total FFP saving of 37.5m by offering an 8 yr contract.

This all sounds great but if you go back to your financial logic, Chelsea has to pay his wages for a further 4 years and this is costing them more in real money terms. Plus, if they sell the player during the 8 year period there are lots of financial downsides as they need to pay up all the outstanding money from an FFP perspective. What Chelsea is doing is like spending lots of money and putting it on your credit card. At some stage it will come back to bite

I'd be willing to go for Lanzini as a squad player, so long as his wages aren't too bad.
