He’s quicker and stronger than Cleverley. He’s not a bad player at all except he’s suffered from playing with Fred under Solskjaer and Rangnick at United and is now behind Casemiro.
He’s usually available, consistently solid, and has a good attitude about him. I could see why Dyche would want him. If the Roxie is right then could be a good deal but it depends what’s happening with Onana. If he’s playing DM next season then there’s no point buying McTominay, if we’re selling Onana then getting McTominay to replace him and buying attacking players wouldn’t be disastrous.
The thing is, Cleverley was also ok. People never liked him, which I got, but I seem to remember we signed him on a free, and sold him for a tidy profit. He wasn't as good as what went before, but versus what's happeend after he is probably a better transfer than 70% of what we did. The Martinez descriptions of him were ridiculous, but that was just Martinez, and true of every player.
Mctominay does all the things Dyche wants. Brillaint in the air, makes lots of clearances, wins tackles and chips in with goals. When we played United I thought he was a lot better than our midfielders.
There are risks, but as a like for like if Onana goes, for less money it would make sense.
