In previous seasons, David Moyes hasnt been one to spend big in transfer market. Everyone keep's saying we need midfielders, and i definalty agree, personally i think we need about 3-4 players, just to boost tbe numbers. Surely Kenwright knows we need to spend big and spend well in the upcoming transfer window. What i wanna know is, how much do you think we have to spend? And how many players do you think we need.

4th or 5th is great, but i have a feeling if moyes isnt given the money and the chance to buy some new talent in the window, we could see the last of him. Which would be a shame, im hoping our links to Kallstrom are true, i think he is a great player and he will take some pressure off Arteta. Personally i also think we need a new Carsley, dont get me wrong i love Cars, but we need someone who can pass and play that holding mid role. Someone like Huddlestone or Sissoko (even though he is a former [Poor language removed] player) i think would be great.

Our back four is probably going to be the biggest headache, especially with Neville. If it were upto me, id have Lescott at RB, Baines at LB and Jags and Yobo in the middle and maybe Neville in that CDM role although his passing needs alot of work.

COYB

Id probabl put Baines up front, rest Lescott all next season after the blinder hes had, and put a few hundred Jimmies on myself being the first Manager sacked next season.

But then again Im no Manager.

As Moyes has said, I don't think we need more players but just better players. When you think we've had the likes of Graveson, VDM and Da Silva in the squad this season that have contributed bugger all.

If you look at the keepers (that have played a decent amount of league football):

Howard
Turner
Ruddy

Hibbo
Jags
Yobo
Lescott
Baines
Valente (?)
Neville

Carsley
Pienaar
Arteta
Cahill
Osman

AJ
Yak
Vic
Vaughan

That's 19 senior players that are keepers. Add in Rodwell, Gosling, Lukas et al that may play a part next year and you're looking at 2 players for each position quite easily. We usually make three signings per season and I think three good players to replace Grav, VDM and Da Silva and we'll be ok next season.

Ill believe that when I see you write it on this forum.

Hang on....

I'd be interested to know exactly how much Moyes has spent during the past 5 years, and compare it to other managers or clubs. It's often said that we've spent hardly anything, but is that true? I would imagine that after the top 4, we're pretty high on the spending list.

Anyone got figures for the past 4 or 5 seasons?

2007

"Despite winning the Premier League last season, Manchester United were the biggest spenders during 2007, shelling out £51million on players.

They were closely followed by Liverpool (£50million), while Tottenham spent £40million in their quest for Champions League qualification and newly-promoted Sunderland spent £35million."

You can't take one seasons spending in isolation to see who has spent the most on a team. The team is created over a few years. We would need to know how much all clubs have spent over at least 3 or 4 seasons to see which clubs have spent big.

Lescott at right back? He's left footed and one footed. He hardly ever uses his right foot. We should buy a right back, drop Neville, move Lescott to centre half alongside Yobo or Jagielka and put Baines at left back.

Mate I put that there faster than a google search and then found the coolest transfer site.

Do your own reseach next time buddy

I didn't ask you to do any research, I asked a general question, which you didn't answer, buddy. :P

i dont think we will have that much to spend.

i know we have had the extra money this season from good cup runs but i think there wont be a lot of it that wont be put to 'behind the scenes' budgets and pienaar/previoustransfer fee's.

we have sold stubbs da silva and mcfadden which would suggest that moyes will go for a cb a cm and a cf.

the cm could be manny (quality) , the cb and cm is anyones guess.

i think moyes will go for 1 proven quality player , a low risk low price gamble on a player (lower leagues) , and lastly an unsure (but showed quality in the past) loan with a view to buy.

i have read a rumour recently about a player called 'de la red'.
at first i thought this was bs. but if you read up about de la red he does have the touch of the arteta's about him.ex real madrid promising wonderkid who has lost his way but has oodles of unacheived class.
my money is on him being our 'loan' with a look in to buy.

also dont be surprised if the cf (mcfaddens replacement ) is a cut price nugent from pompey.

moyes liked him and wanted nugent at the right price and eventually lost out.i think if we were offered him for 4 million i think moyes would have him still .

personnaly i would rather buy proven quality , better than we have , but if money is tight then a think nugent could be a good understudy for aj and yak aswell as good competition for vaughan and big vic.

i think a ball park figure would be a budget of £20 million ,give or take a few million.

Personally if the money's there I wouldn't mind buying AJ's replacement. It shouldn't be the main priority but we should definatly be looking at buying a better striker.

Midfield is the main place that needs strengthening and it wouldn't bother me if we spent all our money on the midfield.

I hope your wrong their uk, if it does end up as you say. We Will struggle to finish in the top eight. As teams like newcastle, villa, city, west ham, spurs an others will spend 30m+ an more. We dont want to fall behind to much.

yep i think i agree with you there.
i dont think the players we have in midfeild are bad in any way but i just think we have the wrong players for what we need and not a lot of variation.ive always said the balance is wrong.

ive just read that carsley may be off on a free to derby aswell.

perhaps if we count osman pienaar arteta cahill gosling and rodwell as keepers then we defo need atleast 2 more.hopefully manny will be 1 of them but with koeman being sacked i think we may have to look for someone else.

note - vdm shouldnt be classed as a squad midfeild player.they might aswell add the tea lady in his place.
also neville in no way shape or form should be classed as a midfeilder .he is a right back and only a right back imo.
also jags , although he can play midfeild he is a better defender.
both these 2 players should only be used in midfeild if there is no option.
