Succession Planning - Managerial Wishlist

I genuinely cant believe a thread like this exists. We currently have the best manager in Moyes since Moyes and we are talking about getting in someone else? Absolute madness.

We should be talking about giving Moyes more power in transfers instead of these DOF types who have signed players not up to the standard.

Have these people not seen where West Ham are in the league currently?

The Bill Kenwright defence.

I thought that era had ended.

I’m not advocating for Moyes to go but in thinking longer term, this is a good shout. I’m from Ipswich so know a bit about him. A local press officer told me that he had been briefed that he was going to Brighton, then the next day they appointed Hurzeler. Allegedly he blew it by asking for 24 more hours so he could talk to Chelsea and Man Utd first about their vacancies at the time. His stock then dropped after relegation, but he has turned around a really poor start (understandable considering the momentum of so many losses) and the Tractor Boys are playing really good football. He’s got something about him when he speaks - a quiet but steely determination and belief in what he does. I guess you would say he is a risk, as still unproven at Prem level and little experience of working with more established players.

If Howe hasn’t become too bored at the Barcodes to consider his boyhood team, McKenna would be ok.
I live about half an hour away, just outside Newmarket, and have a couple of mates who go regularly (when they can get tickets as it’s becoming increasingly hard!), they love McKenna. Ipswich are ridiculously wealthy, people probably don’t realise how much money is behind them now, they are also one of the best run football clubs in the country and have excellent staff involved at every level so it’s difficult to know if McKenna is setup to succeed there in a similar way that Brighton/Brentford give their managers the best chance of doing well. I think St Pauli knew they would lose their manager after having such a brilliant season and gaining promotion and it’s the kind of forward thinking move Brighton are renowned for, Hurzeler was probably always their first choice in hindsight.

It’s a huge gamble to go for anyone nowadays but McKenna has back to back promotions, a relegation and now looks likely to take them back up again for the 3rd time in 4 seasons! He’d be high on my list when Moyes is put out to pasture as he’s not a manager who plays 4231 regardless of which players are available to him, McKenna plays a very entertaining and exciting brand of football and in this day and age if your not winning trophies that’s the least you should be aiming for imo.

Is this site turning into the “we hate Moyes” forum?

Don’t over 60% of readers actually want him to stay.

Succession? Let’s plan for supporting the team and manager… Jeez

What do we want?

A manager who consistently delivers European football?

A manager who has won a European trophy?

A manager who has a sustainable history of delivering success in the Premier League?

A manager who understands the club?

A manager that has the success rating comparable to Carlo Ancelotti with less resources?

I wonder where we’ll find that..

Where do I start with this....

I'm generally supportive of Moyes and unless we are in a relegation scrap (and we are currently closer to 2nd place than we are to the bottom 3) then his position shouldn't be under threat this season, but he was given a 2.5 year contract because, as I see it, the club needed to be rebuilt and for any of his perceived failings, he has demonstrated an ability in the past to do exactly that when given time. Once that contract is up, I'd need to see a pretty convincing argument that he was worthy of another one as at some point I'd want (once the club is in the right state) for us to be moving on to someone who could progress the club further than Moyes.

60 points is another 31 points, I have a feeling that the 12 points more than last season ship has sailed.. Last 2 home games were winnable or cretanly 4 points might have been acceptable.. Branthweight returning and the AFCON players coming back might give us a slight bit of hope, still need a signing or 2 in my opnion, I would say that 29 points after 21 games is dissapointing.

We have half the total now, its low lying fruit to get 60 points when better players get back on the pitch.

The dumbing down of Everton fans expectations is the problem here: see are all too willing to go along with the manager's lack of ambition for his own ends.

We were 3 points off 5th going into Christmas and lost all 3 of the players who played behind the striker, who undoubtedly are our best attacking players and make all the difference.

I am very confident that we would be in a much better position had those players all been available, even with a makeshift right back and Branthwaite still not available.
AFCON happens for a lot of clubs; injuries do too.

We just needed a competent manager to guide us through the period without them, but we had the excuse-making Moyes and so blew the chances we had.

This thread is like a 'Taster'
Cleverly constructed to get posters twitching and thinking with their palate.
Which manager tastes the sweetest..

Moyes is a very competent manager which is why our form has improved over the last 12 months.

He has made a rod for his own back though by sticking with McNeill who is massively underperforming and JOB at right back. But given his options, he’s gone for tried and trusted first because that’s the kind of manager he is.

Come on Dave. Low Lying Fruit? Really? We all would have snapped someones hand off at the start of the season if we'd been promised 60 points.

Lets not turn this into a Moyes fest, I want something positive to look forward to.

Can our next manager please have a preference for pace and pressing please.

My only no go is 3 at the back, always feel Everton should have proper wingers (well at least one). Ideally they don't play with a number 10 and rather 3 in midfield and understands the importance of having a true 6 at the base of the midfield.
