No disrespect meant mate but you owe Brennan and the younger fans a bit more respect. Never mind those who spent good money and time travelling to the game and back yesterday for a game you're keen on telling them not to be arsed about!

Re: Respect:

Following on from a discussion in the match thread that has honestly taken me by surprise, so a genuine question for the younger fans.

Where's the lack of respect in that opening gambit from the OP?

Re: Money spent.

I've actually said I think League Cup ticket prices should be reduced and I always applaud the travelling fans.

There's no attempt at disrespect here at all from me to anyone.

No I'm not. I'm saying he rotated the side, but I still think the side he put out he thought could do the job. Otherwise he'd put in the under 18s and be done with it.

But I said that and you disagreed.

That's not the case - Martinez rotated that side knowing full well he was weakening his chance of progression in the tournament by doing so. The focus wasn't on selecting the best side, it was selecting the most convenient with an eye towards the next game and an eye towards keeping the fringe players happy and giving them game time.

But I said that and you disagreed.

No, he knew he was weakening the side, as it wasn't his starting eleven. But weakening the side doesn't mean he put out a side that had no chance and he knew it.

In short, he didn't pick his "best" side, but he picked an alternative side to go out and win the game, but it wasn't an attempt to put in a side that will give him his 100% best chance of winning.

But Tubey is saying the latter and mk is agreeing with him while arguing the former. They're mutually contradictory views, surely.

My point has been constant in all of this.

I think we have to look to rotate the squad, keep fringe players fit and healthy as well as motivated.

It is logically that the best place to do this is in the League Cup, the least financially rewarding cup.

I dont blame martinez for last night, i blame the players.

Re: Tubey, It seems everyone is quite harsh when debating with him and fire unneeded bullets. I understand theres others who believe that he deserves it, but from my point of view this is meant to be a place of friendly debate between the blue faithful.

If ive been contradictory then let me know where, but I thought id been quite consistent in all of the above

This. Fulham was in no way playing a full-strength squad either. Martinez's lineup is not where the blame should be laid here.

So the mix wasn't fine then, surely ? Football matches are 90 minutes mate.

no what i mean mate is that the mix of experience to youth was obviously fine because of the manner of our first half against Fulhams first 11.

I wouldnt say that the mix can change during the game so drastically, its the performance of the players that did. I think i see what your saying, but im not sure if we are debating the same point tbh! haha, who knows!

No I didn't!!!

You did though.

I said he was trying to win the game but thought our squad players were better then they actually were, he misjudged it and you disagreed.

You even said this.

Not really, his mindset is obvious by his team selection. If he wanted to win the competition, he'd have picked a first team side. I mean, sure, if you want to be definite about things, you can't be 100% certain that was his approach and there's a very remote chance that he genuinely thought that side tonight was the very best means of winning the game and progressing in the tournament, but realistically....

there's a very remote chance that he genuinely thought that side tonight was the very best means of winning the game, ffs.

"Very best means"!!!! Because it wasn't, the first team would be wouldn't it??!

If he wanted to give himself the very best possible chance of going through, Baines would start etc.
