Starting 11 vs Stoke as it stands

I would drop Williams and play snides there as all he did last night was cover for him!

..I see your point, Joey, but that won't happen. It makes you think that whoever we purchase will not necessarily be cover for Funes Mori, but might come straight into the team. It might be better splashing the cash rather than a stop gap.

Theres no way to drop Schneiderlin. He is the defensive lynchpin in front of the back 4.

I really really like Gueye, but lets be honest, he hasnt shown enough going forward yet. I think in games where we need to play more defensive, he should always be playing alongside Schneiderlin. But in games where we know we are going to have 80% possession, he should be subbed out for the likes of Klaassen, Rooney, and our strikers, and we should play with just 1 defensive minded midfielder.

Starts fit, he looked like he had been on a 72 hour pie eating binge by the look at him last night . We need a left sided central defender asap.
Imo any CB bought with be for back up only, that's why Collins from West Ham was mentioned, we need to spend our money on Barkley's and Lukakus's replacements. Keane for this season will have to carry one of Williams,Jags,Holgate(Whoever the back will be) and Mori when fit. I reckon Williams will be the one Koeman won't give up on him after just a year.

Schneiderlin and Gueye are great player, but I just really enjoy Davies energy and craft going forward he is so much better that them 2 at making things happen.

Geuye?

he doesn't mate, he started last season looking similar and then faded quite badly around Jan/ACON

Gueye is a very good player if you can fit him into your system/around the rest of the players, but he has flaws also

How can you judge he's following last season's pattern before the new season has started?

Now going for:

Pickford
Not Martina Keane Williams Baines
Schneiderlin
Gueye-----Klassen
Mirallas--------------Rooney
Sandro

Schneiderlin--Klassen
Miralla-------Rooney-------Lookman
Sandro

....if we have true b2b midfielders with all around capability (which I think RK likes), couldn't the shackles be lifted off Schneiderlin a bit? I remember him being interviewed last season and saying he needs to get into the top third more, especially against certain teams.

Spot on mate. He's far better than just a holding midfielder

I think you greatly underestimate how much controlling the middle of the field helps you both offensively and defensively. And I think you underestimate how much of a difference on the defensive side of the ball a good CM makes.

You HAVE to have a calm and composed defensive midfielder who can protect the back 4, and distribute forward, and that is what Schneiderlin is. I thought we settled the issue when we saw what we were like for just a couple of games without him late last season. Going forward is great, energy is great, but it would be much like having a great looking car without an engine. Youve got to start with the core.

Pickford

Keane Williams Jagielka

Kenny Baines
Scheiderlin Davies

Ramirez Klaassen
Rooney

Three at the back, will give Kenny and Baines chance to get forward and provide us with some width in attack. Schneiderlin and Davies in front of the back four. Rooney up front with support from Ramirez and Klaassen

I actually think Schneiderlin just edges out Gueye as he is just that little more composed, but a lot of our best performances last season were when Davies was playing. Thats Koemans problem he has so many good midfielders now so it will be interesting how he uses them.

So from this post you basically say your believing the sun?

No its just a name I heard mentioned and used an example of roughly the type of cover CB I think we may well sign, bit like the RB cover Koeman signed. Come on I've been supporting Everton since 1988 it's been a long long time since I believed news paper football gossip . But I am a realist and we aren't going to have a 30 million plus player in every position just yet.

The season turned around when Davies broke into the team. He doesn't get the credit he deserves.
