With the kit being released much earlier this season do you think we'll confirm squad numbers earlier? The last few seasons we've left it quite late.

Wouldn't mind seeing an overhaul for once.

With Garbutt likely to be off, Oviedo back-up left back shouldn't be #8 and I believe it's Barkley's preferred number. Lukaku to #9 as earned with 20 goals to Koné's 1 - Coleman getting priority over #2 as #2 is a daft number for a striker so stick Koné with #12 or something. Guessing we'll get Cleverly on a free - #15. Oviedo #19, Galloway #20, Ledson #23 (If Hibbert retires and Coleman takes #2)
Stones should be #5 as a sign of long-term trust and reward for his performances. Returning loanees and youth players should take up numbers left by players leaving (Garbutt, Alcaraz etc)

Hoping we sign Deulofeu, Lennon, Van Dijk or another left-footed centre back, David Henen on a permanent, and I wouldn't complain at Cleverly on a free. Couple of potential first team line-ups:

They dont change first teamers unless players specifically request it and have good reason, because it will inevitably p!ss fans off who buy shirts the season before with their favourite player on before the new numbers are announced.

Let's be absolutely clear here, are you saying Kone isn't on the same level as those?

I know that shirt numbers are important to some people, but, I doubt they will change that much from this season.

Hibbert is going to be here till we release him, so number 2 won't be available. Also I don't think Coleman would take it, he has made number 23 his.

Lukaku won't change to number 9, unless Kone is sold. Same with the rest where another player is already using that number. It is very rare that a player joins a club and takes a number from another player. unless we are signing Ronaldo and he insists on having Number 7!

The only one I can see happening is Stones taking number 5, even that is an outside bet. He might really like number 26 or think it's lucky or something

I've had a think about it. I don't seem to recall there being too much uproar when Arteta went from 6 to 10, or Saha from 9 to 8. Pretty sure Ferguson went from 10 to 9 in his last season too, and Beattie went from 9 to 8.
