With the plethora of sport we have been put through, it got me thinking. No Everton players, no obvious choices like Ali or Redgrave or Pele.

Pick your Current Sporting Hero and your Sporting hero of yesteryear and explain why.

Go.

current- Oscar 'bladerunner' Pistorius. His courage against adversity is admirable.

Past- ian botham. Legend.

Ok, Senna. His quote 'when you don't go for a gap, you are not a racing driver' sums it up.

My dad also. He played for a certain church team called St.Domingo FC. After the name change to Everton and turning pro, the church/parish from which EFC came retained a team. He played in goal for St.Domingo FC, and actually got to the first round of the FA Cup on 1982/83.

The team had a kit crisis one game, so wrote off to EFC. EFC recognised the link between the two teams, and sent them the last matches kit. So my dad played in the FA Cup in Neville Southall's shirt.

The entire GB women's volleyball team, for moving away to far off places for work, doing charity events and running marathons all so they could raise funds to pay for the privilege of representing us at the Olympics, and then keeping their heads held high when they were promptly outplayed by teams whose countries fund and support them.

Aman called John Edwardson.............. this will mean nothing to you but he was a legend ,,,, i'm so drunk now i could not do justice to the man so will post about him tomorrow....

ps.... he was ex crystal palace but a very long time ago.

My Granddad. Offered a pro contract by both Charlton and Derby - turned them down because he had an apprenticeship. Loon.

Jesse Owens I think, his story is amazing and to do what he did in the 1936 Olympics, took some balls like.

Also the Black Power salute lids, including the Aussie lad who did it with them

Muhammed 'I'm Ard' Bruce Lee.

Controversial one probably, but David Beckham always for me.

Never the most talented player, he'll admit it himself, he's worked his arse off despite the media taking more notice of his personal life than is necessary. All his age group teams he was the smallest, slowest player, but wanted something so bad he didn't give up.
Has put up with an enormous amount of **** throughout his life, okay some of it he brought on himself like wearing a dress FFS.
But there's the charity work, the football academies he's opened up around the world that kids can attend for free, the pride in his country and the determination to try and bring events like the World Cup and the Olympics to England, whilst being constantly made the scapegoat.
Really nice bloke too.
