We've all got songs that are dear to us in lots of different ways. They aren't even especially incredible songs, but the contexts that surround them; the memories that they evoke make them incredibly special.

What songs are important to you, and why?

For me, it's this.

My dad - who, thankfully is still with me - always plays this song at every opportunity. He was a merchant navy sailor and fisherman in his youth and a chief electrical engineer on cargo vessels. He is a proud, but intrinsically modest man and - being a coastal town - he is incredibly and rightfully proud of our roots.

This song will always bring a tear to my eye as I recall the wonderful days we had when I was 8 or 9 year old and he had quit the job to come and work at home to be with us.

I fear the day, but when I lose my father, this will be the abiding memory I have of him.

Also The Beach Boys Fun Fun Fun. Before my time but reminds me of the utterly crap New years Eve parties I went to. It always got played, I never got drunk/snogged/laid and every year I would swear I wasn't going back. And every year I did....

Closely followed by :

" Swords of a thousand men " - Ten Pole Tudor

And the all time classic house wrecking song - " If the kids are united " - Sham 69.
