Sir Landon Of Donovan

It was a great goal against Brazil but their not great at the back to be fair these days, as recent form suggests, with a defensive stratagey based on the princiaple if you score two we will score three. Secondly i know people have watched him for a long time and he has been the star of the show in certain context. His star status is based in the main against teams from the MLS and internationals against the likes of Cuba, Honduras, Panama etc. Its important we assess Landon in a realistic context before we throw around terms like World Class. He is proving to be a good Prem player with ability, what he needs to develop now is consistencey and an ability to effect a game more frequently.

"Yeah it was a great goal against Brazil, but...."

"Sure he was in on goal alone TWICE against Oli Khan in the World Cup quarters when he was 20, but...."

Look, the measure of Donovan is, basically, how much the entire Mexican nation hates his a$$, with a vivid passion. They chant "Culero!" every touch he gets. I'm not sure you guys really understand how vicious the USA-Mexico rivalry has become, on both sides, nor what playing at Azteca is like. I know the Merseyside Derby was a huge deal, but Donovan quite possibly came off the pitch thinking to himself, "Hey, they weren't throwing bags of piss at me here - it ain't so bad"

Oh - my first post - Fulham supporter, really; I followed Dempsey from the Revs and fell in with the Cottagers, much like many of my fellow Yanks are doing with Donovan and you. I've been lurking because this isn't my club, but Neiler is --- to take a good line from BigSoccer, dude, what color is the crack you're smoking?

that depends on the club, and the player in question. you mention Greece so I imagine your thinking of Freddy Adu. A stint in MLS would probably do well for his career, but he seems to be settling in at Aris so who knows. More european based players are in our national team then ever before, that tells me all i need to know.

Yes, but you must also look at the quality at which those players are playing.

Dempsey is really the only standout going back to the beginning of the season. Landon is, as much as I hate to say it, as johnny-come-lately as any of the American players this year. I'm not saying he's not playing well, because that's blatantly obvious, but who else is playing well?

Michael Bradley was struggling for playing time at 'gladbach. Cherundolo has been injured oft for Hannover. Davies and Onyewu have been hurt. Adu spent months riding the bench at a mediocre Belenenses whilst Eddie Johnson sat the curb as well. The only one getting a fair amount of playing time has been Bocanegra. Altidore finally found a scoring touch, but will that last? I guess we'll wait and see, but I hope for the team's sake things start to come together a bit better. The match against the orange coming up next month is going to speak volumes.

Like i say hes a good player 1 goal and two assists prove he is a usefull player - not what i think we need - in a player who can counter (like Landon ) but its not all about pace as im sure everyone here knows.

Frankly i want a winger who cobines pace, inciceveness, can beat a man, go to the by line, deliver and come inside if needs be. Nzogbia is one player who pocesses these attributes i can think of a few. He does offer balance an outlet, pace and has a good deleviery i wouldnt mind him in the squad but llike i say if it was a choice i would go for someone else.

Think the MLS will want top dollar to.

Having Dani Alves and Lucio is not exactly "weakness" at the back. I think Brazil was pressing for the equalizer, they got caught and Donovan made them pay like an assassin. I was hoping he would do that against Liverpool, but he just passed the ball instead of trying to make something happen. He didn't turn it over though, but keeping possession works when you have the lead. Sitting back and doing nothing is not how you even things up.

The problem with Bocanegra was that his passing is not that great and he always seemed to lose possession of the ball.

I'd love him to extend his loan but Moyes' comments seem to suggest that idea is deader than a three legged hedgehog on the M6 at quarter past five in the afternoon.

I can see him going back to the MLS until the WC and us being in for him afterwards, especially if we get a big offer for Pienaar. Even if the little Saffa signs a new deal I imagine we'll have the 6 or so million (in GBP) that was quoted as his likely fee. Despite not being the out and out winger we crave his versatility suits the Moyes squad building ethos.

Just have to wait and see.

MLS and Galaxy are playing hardball. They want to sell him.

Moyes is playing hardball... he wants to buy.

LD wants to stay. Something has got to give.

Are we using him right in your opinion?

No. But I understand what Moyes is doing. Like someone said in another thread, Moyes can't/won't/shouldn't change the style of play for a loaned player. If Sir Landon is going to play the wing, he needs a partner that can give him the ball. Neville has shown me he can't or won't do it.

I've watched Sir Landon so I know what his potential is, and it's not being used. It's really not fair to expect Moyes or Evertonians to know Landon's potential yet. But still...it's frustrating sometimes.

I'm use to seeing Sir Landon as "the man" rather than an accessory, so it's hard to deal with. growing pains, but I'll get use to it.

In financial terms we don't even have a trigger. More a stick with a nail if we're lucky. Thus is the life of a Blue.

I think I'm attracted to this type of team. Kinda sad.

I'm a Utah Jazz fan,Chicago Cubs fan, Green Bay Packer fan, Real Salt Lake fan and now an Everton FC fan. I'm a sucker for cheap teams.

No permanent deal could be done. He is the face of the MLS and LA Galaxy. I do see him returning next january in a similar deal. That should be good

I Disagree with this. Landon wanted to go to Europe to get ready for the World Cup and to get bought. I would be shocked if Sir Landon wasn't bought after the World Cup. If Sir Landon is back on loan next year, I would consider that a complete failure.
