Sir Landon Of Donovan

Donovan has played in such a poor league for the whole of his career there really isnt any reason why he cant be like Scholes or Giggs. He quite clearly keeps himself fit. I have zero problem with Donovan coming back permanently, dont see why people do tbh.

Funny isn't it how the golden boy of US soccer, from glamorous Los Angeles, can be so right and fit so well in at Everton? Hope he comes back, he still has two or three years in him easily. Can't see him joining on a permanent deal though.

It would daft not to agree that we do need to sell to balance our books, but should we use it as a reason not to sign Donovan? Someone we know will make an impact and isn't off his head like Drenthe.

I'm not trying to say we should have signed Drenthe by the way, just that quality isn't the only factor.

Landon is old and whilst I have no doubt he'd be good for us for at least 2-3 seasons, if we have to spend £5mil or something on him then that's a lot of money to us that we will not get back. We'll be doing something similar for Pienaar and I think that's enough for me. I'd rather see us try and sign someone younger who'll give us either more years or some financial safety net.

And before anyone says "who else?" please don't pretend Moyes doesn't know how to find good players for £5m ish or less. Perhaps they wouldn't make the same immediate impact, but let's be honest LD isn't going to get us into the CL. And that's the only step up that would justify (financially) expenditure beyond our means.

I would usually be of that mindset, but i think you have to take a potential fee into account - if hes out of contract in Dec surely he would just be a couple of million. Well worth 3-4 years. As well as that i think he can play a number of positions if requried so all in cost benifit i think it would a pretty good deal. Id prob be against if it was anything north of six mill.

Well yes the fee matters. If it's a few mil then hell yes get him signed.

But didn't they ask for £10m or something not so long ago? He's the poster boy of "soccer", would they really let him go for a few mil?

17 goals and 15 assists in 47 appearances in the calender year of 2012 - yet some are concerned over his fitness? We should be laughing if he comes on a free (isn't he out of contract soon?).

I don't think this is valid, especially for someone who has relied on his pace most of his career. The MLS isn't anything like the premiership, but it's a physical league with tons of travel. Add all the national team appearances, the loans in his off seasons when he gets no rest...He probably has a few good years left but it's not as if he'll be playing until he's 36 or 37.

We've just lost someone who got Everton so it would be nice if we got someone else who got Everton.

Donovan is boss on his day too. Hope it happens like.

Donovan is the only signing that could go anywhere near to replacing Cahill. And could possibly be a better option than Cahill. If there was an inane vote last week that was "If you could have Cahill or Donovan, who would you take?", I wouldn't have been surprised if Donovan won. Much fitter and more useful when he doesn't score than Timmy.

I love Donavon and he has great, unquestionable quality. However if we had a few mil spare, I'd much rather it went on a down payment on a younger player, i.e. Lewis Holtby.

Its like RVP though mate isnt it, if he had five years on his contract he would prob be north of forty million, but seeing as he has a year Arsenal will be lucky 15-20mill. Donavon has less then six months if we went beyond a couple of million we've been had. I dont think its any coincidence, Nike and one or two other American companies have come on board, i beleive we have a new Amercian partnership being announced commercially this week too - nothing significant financially butit shows what way the momentum is shifting.

Is that true?

For some reason I thought he signed a big new contract not so long ago. If that's the case then surely he won't cost too much, and I'd be well behind the transfer. :)

I thought i read that on here, no? Could well be wrong on that! Im sure our American bretheren would know! I remember he signed a new contract just before the first year he came on loan - whats that three years ago.

You may as well have read it in your cereal mate. This forum is a bukkake of all kinds of information... it all gets mixed up. And messy.

Wins > wages/fees.

A top 4 finish, european football or a cup win...all would pay "fees" that we would miss out on later with a resale value.

It only takes 1 year on top to change the entire course of this club.
Sign him and win. It is very simple.
