Sir Landon Of Donovan

Weird how paths cross like...

weeks after she was born I went to see a game in NZ in the u19 world cup, Aus v US..... he was MoM & tournament.... scored in game.
Then that pic was on his Everton debut and she was the Toffee Lady for the day, was lads birthday as well.

Side note for those that don't know - LD played with swine flu in a USA vs. Mexico game, so he's not going to be a pansy about feeling sick. If he's not playing tomorrow, means he's pretty damn ill.

Not questioning LD's commitment to EFC, think he's proven that, but WCQ at Azteca..... you would've had to cut his legs* off to keep him out of that

*It's just a flesh wound

LOL. Yup, pretty much. Just hate Eric Wynalda acting like a slight cough kept him out.

Anti-climactic finish to his spell today, but still a cracking success. This thread can go back to the bowels. We'll miss you Lando*!

*Cannot wait to see him play in Italy with Demps.

Some interesting stats from ESPN that are also interesting for the team:

• Since the beginning of the 2009-10 season, the Toffees are plus-0.5 goals per 90 minutes with Donovan on the pitch. That may not sound impressive, but it's the second-best rate on the team among the 25 players who played at least 500 league minutes.

• In his seven Premier League appearances this year, Donovan completed 14 passes that led to Everton shots. That leads the entire league since his first match Jan. 4, and it's the second-most on the Toffees for the whole season. Two of those completed passes were through balls that earned Donovan a pair of assists. No other Everton player has completed more than two through balls all season.

Wonders if I should take the kids pic with him to try & get signed ? (risking ruin in the rain)

I knew LD was the kinda guy to go with tight pants. I'll be miserable if I ever see Dempsey in tight jeans.

He's been great, his general play has been even better this time around and the number of assists has been unreal given his situation. I think we are really going to miss him. I just hope that Drenthe gets a run in the team now as I think he is the only other player who can even get close to Donovan's level of assists.

Here's hoping that he comes back next year and this time its permanent.

It amazes me that a player like LD, who SO gets it, does not see Heaven & Earth moved to get him permanently in blue. I know the MLS probably want an unreasonable amount, but when you think of the money put up for players not proven in the PL, then surely a PROVEN player is worth digging a little deeper.

Sure, there's probably little we'll get when he does move on due to his age, but if we're looking at re-sale value above performance in the here & now, then I think we end up being perennial bridesmaids.

I know it's not a like for like example, but it's loosely the same case with Manny Fernandes on his first loan spell at Everton. He really was a decent addition to our squad, but the club didn't fork out for him when he would have been sold at a good price considering Valencia's money troubles at the time... and he was someone we really needed at that time.

I think it's because he's a good guy, and feels like he owes it to the Galaxy to do what he said he would do. I love him.
