Sir Landon Of Donovan

He's two years down the road since we last saw him and I'm not sure he's got the legs to give us what we need in that RM role.

Keep in mind, though, that MLS does not play NEARLY the amount of games that those in Europe do. Plus his travel schedule for the USMNT isn't as demanding as European based players.

As has been discussed though, I don't see him as primarily a RM. I actually like him better in a more central role behind the strikers taking on defenders (especially lethal on the counter), who can also play out wide, left, or partnered upfront with a striker who can hold and distribute.

I too would also like to see us buy vs loan though. He's not an Arteta replica, but he'd give us some creativity and better finishing than we have atm.

Just bumped in to an article I want to quote.

The seasonal spirit isn't always a force for good, however. It can make managers do strange things or offer charity where none is required. David Moyes, for example, seems to have mistaken Landon Donovan for someone who can hack it in European football and wants to take the LA Galaxy forward to Everton on loan.

I'd be happy if he came back. Not as happy as I would've last year I think but still quite happy. I hope we get some decent signings in January and maybe even tie Royston in a pre-contract.

He was knackered and complaining about 6 games in two weeks I don't blame him. Just a thought he wouldn't be a bad pickup.

Gotta be honest, I was skeptical, but he was a GREAT pickup for the Galaxy and has me excited about my MLS team. If he could get a fricking partner (just even an AVERAGE partner) with him up top LA would be scary.

im like 101% sure he will come back to goodison! i have sauces! my sauce is "somuchfun inc."

but seriously, it would be huge for us i think, everybody loves him cause he is like ace

You and Jurgen Klinsmann both. :) I'm willing to be convinced - it's games like Sunday's that make me wonder.

Selfishly, also from a USMNT perspective, I hope this comes off. If only to give us more examples of positions LD can play for the Nats.

But with Coleman regaining form, if LD played centrally behind strikers (assuming Moyes ever played two), the only person he could bump is Osman. And those two play totally different. I think there would be a higher likelihood of Landon coming in at second striker/RM. So the likelihood of seeing him at CAM I think is slim, but I could be wrong...

The team hasn't played with that 4-4-2 formation (not counting Cahill) for so damn long Osman will probably wonder who the hell is playing in front of him.

Regardless, I hope this happens cause it gives us OPTIONS. We have a very winnable Jan/Feb - minus a difficult period in Feb with Man City, Chelsea and the red crap. (Although Americans still won't get to see Donovan vs. Dempsey, which is a bummer.)

Plus FA Cup :)

Could he partner Saha up front?

Yes. He had an extended period playing second striker for the US national team and the Galaxy. Often still gets moved up top if in need of scoring (which is what happened this past Sunday).

He originally started out for both club and country as a striker, and was moved by Bob Bradley to RM. And to some extent, David Moyes helped support that move when he had Landon play as a true winger here.

My only question here is Saha's style of play - does that suit linking up with him. Based on the limited time they played together in 2010, seems like the answer would be yes.

But in recent times he has looked better marauding up the wing. Space is his friend.

With Coleman being more established now compared to 2010, not quite sure what Moyes is going to do.

That's what I was thinking. Considering Drenthe looks good and Coleman is doing OK (plus rumours of Pienaar returning) it just seems like the wings are fine for now - whereas up front we're heavily inexperienced. I'd like to see him up with Saha, I think their playing style would work well together - Donovan's pace with Saha's technical ability.

And general laziness.

He's not generally lazy from the first whistle - he just loses interest if we're not playing well or he's not having a good one.

On his day though he's boss and I reckon he's technically the best at the club. Which is why he'd work well with Donovan making space for him with runs and chasing his flick ons.
