Sir Landon Of Donovan

I'm yet another new US poster who's been watching Donovan with a lot of interest in his last two games for Everton.

One thing that no one has mentioned yet:

LD is actually a better player--by at least a couple of notches--than you have seen yet. This is not so much a question of fitness (or even match fitness), although that will improve as well.

But LD is above all a team player, a combination player. As you have already seen, his skill is not beating defenders 1 v 1 with fancy moves. It is quick sharp passes, direct movement off the ball, intelligent reading of the defense--give and go's with teammates at bursts of speed.

That combination play may be his deadliest ability--and of course that only comes over time, working with the team.

The more he understands the Cahills, Sahas, Fellanis and Pienaars etc and the more they come to anticipate him as well, the more useful a weapon he will be for the team. Of course, this is true for any new member of a team, but for LD, it's exponentially true.

Just watch-- you ain't seen nothing yet.

Nice first post. Welcome to the forum mate (y)

Lots of good first posts on here.

It'll take 10MM USD to get him away from MLS. Simple really.

I also think Kenwright WILL come up with it IF Moyes says he wants him on a permanent deal.

There's no way MLS will sell Donovan for $10 mil USD. Jozy Altidore was sold to Villareal for that much. And though that price was mostly borne out of Jozy's age and potential, you can bet all of Texas that the MLS will be looking for more if they're going to sell its best player and most recognizable domestic player in Donovan.

If a deal was in the works right now, MLS would probably settle for $15-18 million and I could see them asking for as high as $20-23 million. He means too much to the league to sell for just $10 million.

They'll ask for even more in the summer if he just blows up in the WC. Though asking what they want and getting what they will are two different things.

Surely though if he wants to leave he can which might drop his price?

If thats how much they wanted, he will spend the rest of his career in the MLS, no one will pay that much.

Apparently he had a buyout clause worked into his contract, rumored it was about $10mil.

Even simpler, for $10mil I'll run out onto the field at Goodison Park, buck naked, slap Donovan on the arse and call him "LandyCakes."

... and cross my fingers that my bail will be set under $10 million.

What you fail to realize is that Donovan revamped his contract so he can have control over where he goes or what he does.. MLS, has control over his NEW contract which is geared for him to leave MLS at a minimul buy out..

This player impresses me,with his intelligent use of the ball, finding the space to receive a pass ,his pace along with his vision and awareness.
All this after only 2 games, get him signed up moysie.
A.S.A.P.

If the new contract stipulations you guys say is true, then it would be much more feasible to get Donovan in.
Without those, it would have been hard for Donovan to move, especially with how much he is needed in the MLS as a whole.

Yes, but not sure who would pay to see that....

You never know, Liverpool actually got a sponsor to put their name on those red jerseys. If someone is will to go that low, surely someone would step up a bit and pay me.

I didnt know americans could play football until i seen this boy in the confed cup in the summer. He looked great in your past two games. Can he be made permanent as id love someone like him at st andrews but you will get him i think.
