While I don't like seeing too many changes in the game, this could perhaps stop these trigger happy refs waving the red card too quickly, yes Martin Atkinson I mean you. A player could be sent to the sin bin while a video ref reviewed the incident without stopping the game. Rodwell would have been back out in 2 minutes in the derby for instance.

Never thought about it being used like that, very good idea. Ref could either choose a definite 10 min penalty, or place player on report, 4th official has max 10 mins to decide whether player returns or is sent off.

Nah not for me. Would have too much of an impact on defensive teams not knowing who's on the pitch and who isn't, the game would become a mess.

Link says its for players that protest excessively.

So no. A white card and sin bin is a stupid idea. (what is it with the french and waving white things).

Rugby players concede penalties and ground if they backchat the ref and get sent off for swearing. Only the captain can question the ref. Football should do the same. It would just take a couple of weeks of refs moving freekicks up the field by 10 metres (with freekicks just outside the box being converted immediately to a penalty) for players to get the message that arguing with the ref is going to cost them.

I always thought the idea of "sin bins" in soccer was wrong.

I still think it.

More time wasted with blokes going and coming....you wouldn't know where you were.
