Simic Rumour

The inevitable rumours of interest in Croatian players after they walloped England at wembley...

Various sources saying that we are one of several teams looking at Dario Simic. Now I think this is a recycled rumour from the summer - could it be sensible given the loss of Yobo to african nations? He's 32 like....
I,d like him looks a good player and he can play at right back as well as centre half

Its actually difficult to figure out whether we need someone or not because of the different defensive set ups we have had

Assuming Yobo goes, and ignoring paddy boyle, we have

RB: Hibbo, Neville, Jags,
CB: Lescott, Stubbs, Jags
LB: Baines, Valente

So we are a bit short at CB - but only if injuries bite.

Of course if carsley goes down too then we get stretched more thinly as someone has to cover his spot...

The Croatian team were not that good to hail their players as Prem League world beaters, far from it. Many of them have been around for awhile now. TBH England were poor, they could have been beaten by many other teams, playing like that never, mind Croatia.

If we were to move for a centre back in January, surely it would make sense to go for someone younger so that they can both cover Yobo this winter and replace Stubbs next summer.

Reading my mind there Bruce.

What happens if you bring in an experienced pro like Simic for cover and then Yobo returns from ANC?

Simic wouldn't want to reliquish his place and Yobo would feel slighted if he lost it due to being away for ANC. A move like that could easily disrupt the dressing room that Moyes has spent so much time building up. I'm not saying Simic would be a disruptive influence, far from it. I think that it would naturally play out that way no matter who was involved.

I'd rather we bring up/go get a younger player who wouldn't have the playing time expectations of a Simic.

Attacking midfield

What we really need is a creative/attacking midfielder in Cahill mould. If Cahill og Arteta get injured, we are in deep s**t. Must get on in January.

Any ideas, folks ?

Interestingly, we've now taken some kid from Swindon called Ben Tozer on trial. He's a defender that has apparently broken into their first team this season.
