It was a cup match against lower-league opposition, and he was clearly still a bit rusty after coming back from a long injury. With Oviedo, we have a very able deputy.

There had been no speculation at all that Baines wasn't fit, and logic would have dictated that Baines, having been out for a month, would have needed the game time to bring his match fitness levels up again. It's precisely because he was rusty that he would have played against QPR, but for injury. You don't bring a player back after a month out for one game, then rest him, if you can help it.

He knows what he's talking about and his been right numerous times over situations that no one else has called or speculated.
