He has done his job and provided stability while our takeover went through and we moved home. Time to look to the future now.

Spot on mate.

If he left this summer he'd at least leave with some goodwill toward him. Although not from me.

But if he stayed around for a mediocre season again wasting more cash he'll be detested forever more as the feller who walked out for United and just came back in for a big final pay day.

My money is on the latter, unfortunately.

I think he knows the game has passed him by and all he has left is telling players to work hard.

He's in grifter mode and we'll pay the price for it.

We could have kept any player we wanted, we chose not to, because we had the capability to spend. Unlike every window for the previous 4/5 years.
It was a big positive, the club hierachy said as much and represented a real opportunity.

A mess was the windows when we were having to sell Richarlison, Iwobi, Gordon etc to stay afload.

Losing these, who we could have kept, wasn't a mess.

Asmir Begovic, Joao Virginia, Ashley Young, Mason Holgate, Jack Harrison, Jesper Lindstrom, Armando Broja, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Youssef Chermiti.
And you compare that list to what was brought in, and you ask if the squad is really any better than it was at this time last year? I'm not sure frankly, I don't know that it is, and that is the problem to me.

I think it's certainly better, without doubt in depth - but given what we spent, not as much as it should be.

Calvert-Lewin's the only one on that list I think you can put an argument up for who'd get minutes now.

I agree but I'll clarify-are the results better? What has he done with the new talent? Are we building towards something for this upcoming window?

I haven't looked at updated data, but his points/match record was better with those players last season, than it was with the newer players this season.

Which I think is fine if we see youth coming into the squad to build on this summer, but we obviously aren't. We have two aging, bottom half centerbacks, continue to place square pegs in round holes (O'Brien, Rohl, KDH to some extent), and have relied to a large extent on players who really shouldn't be playing much next season, if at all (Keane, Tarkowski, Gueye).

You look at the upcoming window, and there will be players he wants that in a vacuum aren't bad acquisitions (Bowen). But if you get 2-3 more players past their prime, now your squad is just old.

It would have been nice to have Grealish all season, but we can't pin our hopes on a single 30 year old player.

I've a feeling we will again next season and, when he gets injured again, posters will use it as a reason for why we aren't doing as well as some expect. Conveniently ignoring the fact that putting all of our eggs in the Grealish basket was a choice, a very clear choice, by the manager.

How 'stable' can we possibly be though? This'll be the 3rd year in a row where we've earned the points to be comfortably midtable and there were only 2 seasons where we didn't. How many years of that do we need before we think maybe it's time to move forward? We've got new owners now, the financial woes are hopefully banished, we've made the move to the new ground etc, all the things that made us unstable a couple of years ago have been remedied.

That's not even supposed to be a criticism of Moyes or saying we should get rid now, I just don't really understand why some people continually want to make out like we're a basket case of a club hanging on by our finger nails and the only way to solve it is to have another 3 seasons finishing 11th.
Stability in that he knows the squad and hopefully can add to it sibg our new finances so we make a flying start - for once.

Doucoure would have, and Armstrong would have been left at Preston.

….i think that’s more of an argument for pre-DOF system. Players are more often brought in by committee these days, sure the Manager is part of the process and might have the final say but I don’t think it’s within the scope it once was.
Yeah, it is comittee but manager surely has a large role in deciding the the profile of players that are targeted.

If we're just going off the 3 managers that are most commonly talked about atm - Iraola will want younger players than Moyes, Glasner would want players for a back 3.

If Moyes is going to see out his contract and then move on he should really have no part in picking the players, imo. Need to be planning for years down the line and where we want to end up, not just next season.

He is exasperating. Its like watching someone playing chess over their shoulder and realize that your friend cannot see obvious moves. Why was Dwight tolerated for so long? Why does he continue to partner two old slow centrebacks? Why does he continally play people out of position? Whats the deal with Dibling? Has Tyreek been given time to impress? Why are his subs and game management so crap?
In order to get into Europe EFC needed wins and attack minded leadership. Thats not DM.
