Longstaff is ok as a squad filler, no more, no less. We already have squad fillers what we lack in midfield is pace and power, Longstaff has neither. He really adds little other than another body to the squad.

Even with it being a nominal fee, his ceiling and potential upside aren't particularly high (based off 3+ years of evidence), and so the likelihood is that we'll just be left with another fairly limited midfielder who excels at nothing in particular, and who we'll struggle to clear out later down the line

I don't really agree with that I think the fans generally judge players on what they see if someone comes in and plays well and puts 100% in they'll be supported whoever bought them Rondon isn't just unpopular because of Benitez he's unpopular because for about the first 2 months he was here he looked about 3 stone overweight and barely moved when he was on the pitch.

Well until he signs a new contract then he doesn't have a long term future at the club. He is a free agent in under 6 months, as it stands.
