Is it though Eggs? I don't often disagree with you but the place is absolutely toxic atm, the fans are not convinced by the new owners, they appointed Thelwell and Stewart who are proving themselves totally incompetent (Thelwell basically continuing where he left off with us, ) the players are in disarray, their confidence must be absolutely shattered, demo's going on left, right and centre.
In short mate whichever new manager they choose is going to have to hit the ground running and get instant results, they're going to have to wait until January to have some effect on improving the squad even though I doubt they're going to be throwing much money about even if they have it.
The fans will be looking for someone to come in who at least either has been indoctrinated in the club or is a big enough character with a good record who can handle everything that's going on with assurity and confidence, Martin was like a rabbit in the headlights from the off and everyone but the board and management could see it.
The icing on the cake though with everything going to the wall has to be Thelwell's appointment of his own son as head of recruitment, I mean wtf?
Mate, I understand and respect you have a soft spot for the place but it's going to need a talented manager with a big character to have the confidence to deal with the mess and I don't think there's too many of those going about on the wages that's probably on offer.
@laudo9 what's your thoughts on the names getting thrown about, is there anyone you think could fit the bill?
Is Muscat the man? would you take a chance on Rohl? Is there another name getting banded about within the supporters.
Rangers supporters demand their team challenge in every game in all competitions, it would be far easier for a new manager IMO to come in if they were doing that rather than having to deal with the entire mess they're in currently.
I will watch with interest as to what unfolds as I'm sure most of us will.

We just stagger from one clusterf*@k to another don't we?
Just total incompetence right through the club under the owners and their chosen board.

How they managed to feck up this appointment will no doubt become apparent in the next few days, if, as some believe,it was that Gerrard wanted total control of all footballing matters without Thelwell and that the owners were not prepared to allow that, then the toxicity levels are only going to escalate!

Alienating the support as they are, is a crazy position to put themselves in and only makes the job for their eventual choice as'head coach' 🙄under that clown Thelwell all the more difficult, which in turn limits who would be prepared to take the job in the first place.

It looks like Rohl is going to be their target now, he looks like another project manager/coach so can only see that going the same way as Martin tbh! 😕

If the owners continue to completely ignore the wider supports opinions then this shitshow will only end up sinking to even lower depths! 😕

That was always going to be Gerrard's strategy: demand the moon on a stick with the total removal of all obstructions to his authority over football matters plus a promise for cash to buy players; and if that didn't work he knew the media would blame Thelwell and not him for walking away....walking a way with his name in the frame again for other jobs - having used rangers for a shed load of media coverage.

Gerrard was a snide as a player and he's a snide as a manager...that's because he's a snide as a person.

You were warned mate. 🤷‍♂️

So Gerrard flies over to gain publicity that will attract WHO exactly?

His best opportunity to rebuild his rep as a coach/manager in a high profile job in Britain was with Rangers.

With who?

You'll find out in the short term, I suspect.

Lad, rangers have been played here.

I'd guess that Gerrard was only ever taking the Ibrox job if the 49rs offered him the lot: restructure the off-field football governance to suited him. No one could accede to those demands.

I pity the new manager coming in. Those rangers fans will hand them a terrible time no matter who it is now.

They want Thelwell gone and they want Cavenagh out of the frame.

All this managerial crisis is down to that.

A club fanbase that wont drop their 'traditions'.

The owners and their board have created the whole shitshow dave, they ignored the supports almost universal opinion that Martin would be a disastrous appointment.

Alienating the support(the paying customer if you like) isn't the cleverest of moves.

Gerrard options as a manager/coach now would probably be some mid table Championship side, so your take on his motives look to be way off the mark.

He'll end up in the MLS. Absolutely nailed on.

He may well do Dave but it seems all crap managers seem to keep themselves employed and it certainly won't be on the back of having a meeting with the Rangers hierarchyIf as reported by the BBC Slippy knocked back the job because he wanted autonomy rather working with Thelwell (Which I can believe) that is only going to increase the fans ire against the bespectacled football genius.

Imagine Cavenagh selling that to the rest of the 49rs executive board: "What, the DoF we hired months ago? Well, Stevie G wanted him out so we got shut of him".

If they'd have complied with that and Gerrard would have fallen on his arse then Cavenagh would have looked worse than incompetent.

I'm not being funny, but 'the Rangers' really need to recognise how far they've fallen, even in the context of Scottish PL football. Thelwell might have got off to a poor start but he's never going to be sacked that quickly for making a managerial appointment that the fans turned on in the end.

Until they get real about how far back they have to travel they'll be in crisis. As Mao said: 'the journey of a thousand miles is started with the first step'.
