school starts next week!

korean school year starts next week. 800 new korean names to memorise! these kids work so hard over here. they come to school at 7 am and leave at 11pm. there really is no jumpers for goalposts for thse kids. it's burnout central for the 3 years of high school before uni.

ha! lol! i know. it really is crazy. i work at a specialist high school. the students are brtween 16-19. i had a pop quiz last semester over how much sleep they got. on average they got just 4 hours a night!! i tried to explain to them that when i was their age doing a levels i had three lessons a day and finished at half three. the funny thing is they think england and america are the best places to study. especially if they go to uni. i just could never imgine myself pulling a 16 hour school day. not forgetting they come in on saturdays aswell. most have private tuition on sundays and over the vacation. in fact even though i'm on vacation all the students are doing private study and extra lessons in school. even on vacation in korea all the kids still wear school uniform. it is a keeping up with the jones' here. they are all guilty if they get 7 hours sleep!

so before you complain about your workloads next time- think- it could be worse! you could be a korean high school student!

Unbelivable Teppic, the high priority that the Koreans put on education is noble and right and can only be of benefit to the country but the hours mentioned are astronomical, Education, but at what price, childhood ?

Keeps them from being bloody Evertonians too and visting sites like these. But I suppose we are all doing 7am to 11pm on here just a different sort of school for us. The school of science. Keeps me out of trouble anyway.

from the south. i'd love to visit the north one day though. i've been to the d.m.z and even after just 50 years of being apart you can tell the difference. the southern soldiers are all big beefcakes over 6 feet tall and the northern soldiers are very slim around 5'9". just goes to show what a good healthy diet can do for you!
